}The polyphenol (-)-epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) is a green tea constituent, which has been shown to inhibit cancer cell growth in vitro, in vivo and in epidemiological studies. In this study, we investigated its effects in gastric cancer cell lines. Five gastric cancer cell lines, the MKN-1, MKN-28, MKN-45, NUGC-3 and TMK-1, were found to be sensitive to EGCG treatment. Of all the cell lines tested, NUGC-3 was the most sensitive. EGCG treatment of NUGC-3 cells induced apoptosis, which was…

Role of Ku70 and Bax in epigallocatechin-3-gallate-induced apoptosis of A549 cells in vivo.

It is suggested that EGCG induced A549 lung cancer cell apoptosis in vivo, and had less toxic effects compared to classical anticancer drugs, and this is the first study demonstrating that the induction of apoptosis by EGCGs may be caused by the downregulation of Ku70 and that E GCG disrupts the interaction betweenKu70 and Bax in lung cancer.
(-)-Epigallocatechin gallate induces Fas/CD95-mediated apoptosis through inhibiting constitutive and IL-6-induced JAK/STAT3 signaling in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma cells.
- Biology, MedicineJournal of agricultural and food chemistry

The results strongly suggest that EGCG induces Fas/CD95-mediated apoptosis through inhibiting constitutive and IL-6-induced JAK/STAT3 signaling, which may be partially responsible for E GCG's ability to suppress proliferation of HNSCC cells.

It is shown that LMB produces ROS and is possibly metabolized by CYP3A4, GPX1, and SOD in A549 cells, and combination treatment of LMB and EGCG augments LMB-induced cytotoxicity through enhanced ROS production and the modulation of drug metabolism and p21/survivin pathways.

- BiologyInternational journal of oncology

EGCG is a potent proapoptotic agent in MCF-7 breast cancer cells that targets survivin expression via suppression of the AKT pathway and is supported to support the hypothesis that the inhibitory effect of EGCG on survivin is mediated via theAKT pathway.
