A new lycorine-type alkaloid, named (-)-amarbellisine, was isolated from the bulbs of Egyptian Amaryllis belladonna L. together with the well known alkaloids (-)-lycorine, (-)-pancracine, (+)-vittatine, (+)-11-hydroxyvittatine, and (+)-hippeastrine.
