$\beta$-Barium Borate (BBO) Absorption in the 0.188-6.22 $\mu$m Range

  title={\$\beta\$-Barium Borate (BBO) Absorption in the 0.188-6.22 \$\mu\$m Range},
  author={Gintaras Tamovsauskas},
The crystal of -Barium Borate is widely used for nonlinear light wavelength conversion like harmonics generation and parametric amplification when pumped by the pulsed lasers and as electro-optically switched Pockels cells. Modern lasers produce hundreds of watts of average power, thus thermal effects become important. In this work, absorption of the crystal is obtained by reviewing published data, results of measurements performed by the author and data provided by the optics industry.

Tunable coherent far-UV generation by frequency conversion in BBO
Tunable vacuum ultraviolet radiation below 200 nm was generated in a beta barium borate (BBO) crystal by noncollinear sum-frequency mixing (SFM) of Nd:YAG laser radiation and the second harmonic of a
Thermal properties of borate crystals for high power optical parametric chirped-pulse amplification.
The potential of borate crystals, BBO, LBO and BiBO, for high average power scaling of optical parametric chirped-pulse amplifiers is investigated. Up-to-date measurements of the absorption
> 3 MW peak power at 266 nm using Nd:YAG/ Cr 4+ :YAG microchip laser and fluxless-BBO
Wavelength conversion efficiency to the UV region is limited by a host of factors. To overcome several of these constraints, we use a fluxless-grown BBO crystal for fourth harmonic conversion of a
Transmittance and phase matching of BBO crystal in the 3−5 μm range and its application for the characterization of mid-infrared laser pulses
We uncover that thin (of few tens of μm thickness) BBO crystal exhibits reasonable transmittance and phase matching in the 3 − 5.2 μm range. We also provide refined dispersion equations of the
Annealing to reduce scattering centers in Czochralski-grown beta-BaB2O4.
It is shown that annealed Czochralski-grown BBO is superior to flux- grown BBO (annealed or as-grown) in terms of optical loss.
Characterization of NLO crystal absorption for wavelengths 1ω to 4ω
An overview is presented of the characteristic features for the sandwich concept used for NLO crystal bulk absorption measurements. The sandwich concept is a photo-thermal absorption measurement
Optical, mechanical, and thermal properties of barium borate
We report measurements of all the material constants necessary to fully characterize barium borate as a nonlinear optical material. All data was taken on crystals supplied by Professor Chuangtien
Photothermal method for absorption measurements in anisotropic crystals.
A measurement system for quantitative determination of both surface and bulk contributions to the photo-thermal absorption has been extended to anisotropic optical media, accomplishing precise on-line monitoring of wavefront deformations of a collimated test beam transmitted perpendicularly through the laser-irradiated side of a cuboid sample.
