The basin of Pina has been studied for many years in order to check the level of organic pollutants. Many rivers are discharged in this basin bringing a big amount of pollutants to it. This affects the quality of organisms fished by the poor population that lives in the neighborhood. Up to now there’s only one studie on meiofauna, specifically on nematofauna, carried out at this place, despite of its great role for the benthic trophic net. Biosedimentic samples were taken weekly during 3 months…

Avaliação do impacto de um cultivo de ostras sobre o ambiente bentônico

It was observed that the oyster farm structures changes sediment characteristics and hence meiofauna and nematofauna community structure, mainly regarded to density and diversity values, which were always higher in CONTROL than the CULTIVE.

Meiobenthos in mangrove areas in eastern Africa with emphasis on assemblage structure of free-living marine nematodes

A survey was conducted to examine spatial variations in the population density of major meiofaunal taxa and the assemblage structure of free-living marine nematodes within 5 mangrove areas on the west and east coast of Zanzibar indicating the absence of a well defined nematode assemblages confined to mangroves.

Changes in and slow recovery of a meiobenthic nematode assemblage following a hypoxic period in the Gullmar Fjord basin, Sweden

Although there was no immediate response to the hypoxic period, changes in assemblage structure at both genus and family level during the subsequent year may have been caused by it: diversity was reduced, multivariate assemble structure was altered, and within-site variability was considerably increased.

Population studies on benthic nematodes within a subtropical seagrass community

It is concluded that erroneous observations can be made from ecological studies based on field data derived without proper replication or consideration of seasonal factors, and that intrinsic variability within the particular locality itself contribute to the basic faunistic composition of benthic communities.

Analysis of community attributes of the benthic meiofauna of Frierfjord/Langesundfjord

It is concluded that pollution monitoring at the community level using higher taxonomic groupings of meiofauna is viable, and renders such studies much less time-consuming and more cost-effective than more standard procedures.

Meiofauna of a mangrove shore on the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia

It may be concluded that the greatest abundance of meiofauna occurred in the lower shore Avicennia forest and the lowest abundance in the high shore Bruguiera forest.

Vertical distribution of Cletocamptus confluens (Copepoda, Harpacticoida) in relation to oxygen and sulphide microprofiles of a brackish water sulphuretum

Field and laboratory investigations suggest that C. confluens possesses a high tolerance for short term exposure to sulphide and anoxia, enabling it to populate unstable niches characterised by prolonged periods of anoxIA and high sulphide concentrations, freezing and changes in water level.

Composition, distribution and biomass of meiobenthos in the Oosterschelde estuary (SW Netherlands)

Meiofauna composition, abundance, biomass, distribution and diversity were investigated for 31 stations in summer. The sampling covered the whole Oosterschelde and comparisons between the subtidal —
