On April 19, 1995, NBC's "Dateline" aired the first of two segments on driver fatigue, hours-of-service rules, and the Maine-based group, Parents Against Tired Truckers. The airing bombed the trucking industry, which already suffered from a poor public image. This article calls the "Dateline" piece irresponsible journalism, citing distortion, inaccuracies, selective editing, and shameless theatrics as tactics of the "Dateline" crew.
