Digital Innovation as a Fundamental and Powerful Concept in the Information Systems Curriculum
TLDR
The 50-year march of Moore's Law has led to the creation of a relatively cheap and increasingly easy-touse world-wide digital infrastructure of computers, mobile devices, broadband network connections, and advanced application platforms. Expand

Personalization from incomplete data: what you don't know can hurt
TLDR
We empirically examine the implications of learning from incomplete data in the context of two specific problems: (a) predicting the remainder of any given session will result in a purchase and (b) predicting if a given user will make a purchase at any future session. Based on a comprehensive experiment on user-level clickstream data gathered from 20,000 users' browsing behavior, we demonstrate that models built onuser-centric data outperform model built on site-centricData. On active learning for data acquisition
TLDR
We present initial methods for data acquisition and evaluate these methods experimentally on web usage data and UCI datasets and show experimentally how the methods perform for friends. Expand

Robust adaptive second-order sliding-mode control with fast transient performance
A robust adaptive second-order sliding-mode control scheme with finite reaching time is proposed for a class of uncertain non-linear systems. It is shown that the problem is equivalent to theExpand

A Model of Search Intermediaries and Paid Referrals
TLDR
In this paper we pursue three main objectives: (1) to develop a model of an intermediated search market in which matching between consumers and firms takes place primarily via paid referrals; (2) to address the question of designing a suitable mechanism for selling referrals to firms; and (3) to characterize and analyze the firms' bidding strategies. Robust fault-tolerant control against time-varying actuator faults and saturation
A set invariance condition for a piecewise continuous time-varying system is developed and applied to the fault-tolerant control problem against the actuator effectiveness loss for linear systemsExpand

Toward a Causal Interpretation from Observational Data: A New Bayesian Networks Method for Structural Models with Latent Variables
TLDR
The proposed Bayesian networks for latent variables (BN-LV) method tests both the measurement model and the structural model and discovers the most likely causal structure. Expand
