Microsatellite mutation rates in the eastern tiger salamander (Ambystoma tigrinum tigrinum) differ 10-fold across loci
- Zafer Bulut, Cory R. McCormick, D. Gopurenko, Rod N. Williams, D. H. Bos, J. DeWoody
- 1 July 2009
Empirical data on 7,906 allele transfers provide the first direct estimates of MMRs in amphibians, and they illustrate that MMRs can vary by more than an order of magnitude across loci within a given species.
Genetic structure and viability selection in the golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos), a vagile raptor with a Holarctic distribution
Assessment of golden eagle population structure in North America using novel single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) indicates that cryptic genetic population structure is likely widespread in the golden eagle gene pool, and that extensive field sampling and genotyping will be required to more clearly delineate management units within North America and elsewhere.
Genetic Diversity of Eight Domestic Goat Populations Raised in Turkey
- Zafer Bulut, E. Kurar, Y. Ozsensoy, V. Altunok, M. Ni̇zamlioğlu
- Biology, MedicineBioMed research international
- 22 March 2016
Results of structure analysis and assigned test suggest that further analyses are needed using additional and different molecular markers, because this study for the first time presented genetic data on the Yayladag goat.

Condition‐dependent mate choice and a reproductive disadvantage for MHC‐divergent male tiger salamanders
- D. H. Bos, Rod N. Williams, D. Gopurenko, Zafer Bulut, J. DeWoody
- BiologyMolecular ecology
- 1 August 2009
The results suggest that the most MHC‐divergent males may be at a reproductive disadvantage in pairwise breeding trials, adding to a growing body of evidence that suggests where it exists, MHC-based choice is probably dynamic and mediated by many factors that vary in the wild, notably signals from other indicator traits and by the quality and quantity of potential mates.
Phylogenetic relationships of native Turkish cattle breeds using microsatellite markers
- Yusuf Özşensoy, E. Kurar, A. Işık
- BiologyTURKISH JOURNAL OF VETERINARY AND ANIMAL SCIENCES
- 1 February 2019
The observed genetic diversities and the results of the phylogenetic analyses were in agreement with evolutionary history and the geographical origins of Turkish native cattle breeds.
Use of Noninvasive Genetics to Assess Nest and Space Use by White-tailed Eagles
- Zafer Bulut, E. Bragin, J. DeWoody, Melissa A. Braham, T. Katzner, Jacqueline M. Doyle
- Environmental ScienceJournal of Raptor Research
- 6 December 2016
Noninvasive genetic tools are used to evaluate the details of space use over a 3-yr period by White-tailed Eagles at the Naurzum Zapovednik in northern Kazakhstan to suggest partitioning of spatial resources among White-tails Eagles and other eagles at the Zapovedniks may be facilitated by the alternative strategies of spaceuse they employ.
Evolutionary relationship among three native and two crossbreed sheep breeds of Turkey: preliminary results
SUMMARY The Turkish native sheep breeds, possibly being the neighbours of the earliest domesticated sheep populations, might be harbouring important genetic characteristics to be employed in the…
Selection signatures in goats reveal copy number variants underlying breed-defining coat color phenotypes
This study yields novel insights into the genetic control of pigmentation by identifying six functionally relevant CNVs, illustrating how structural changes of the genome have contributed to phenotypic evolution in domestic goats.
Polymorphism of Alternative Splicing of Major Histocompatibility Complex Transcripts in Wild Tiger Salamanders
- Zafer Bulut, Cory R. McCormick, D. H. Bos, J. DeWoody
- BiologyJournal of Molecular Evolution
- 10 June 2008
Alternative splicing (AS) of mRNA transcripts is increasingly recognized as a source of transcriptome diversity. To date, most AS studies have focused either on comparisons across taxa or on…
