Molecular mechanisms of cell death: recommendations of the Nomenclature Committee on Cell Death 2018
An updated classification of cell death subroutines focusing on mechanistic and essential aspects of the process is proposed, and the utility of neologisms that refer to highly specialized instances of these processes are discussed.
Guidelines for the use and interpretation of assays for monitoring autophagy (3rd edition)
There continues to be confusion regarding acceptable methods to measure autophagy, especially in multicellular eukaryotes, so it is important to update guidelines for monitoring autophagic activity in different organisms.
Apoptosis, autophagy, and more.
Essential versus accessory aspects of cell death: recommendations of the NCCD 2015
- L. Galluzzi, J. M. Bravo-San Pedro, G. Kroemer
- BiologyCell Death and Differentiation
- 19 September 2014
The Nomenclature Committee on Cell Death formulates a set of recommendations to help scientists and researchers to discriminate between essential and accessory aspects of cell death.
Programmed cell death and apoptosis: origins of the theory
Interest in the study of apoptosis grew with the recognition that it is a highly regulated process. Such a change in attitude allowed the intellectual and technical breakthroughs that led to the…
Flavivirus NS4A-induced Autophagy Protects Cells against Death and Enhances Virus Replication*
- J. McLean, A. Wudzinska, E. Datan, D. Quaglino, Z. Zakeri
- BiologyThe Journal of Biological Chemistry
- 21 April 2011
It is reported that, in epithelial cells, up-regulation of autophagy following flavivirus infection markedly enhances virus replication and that one flaviv virus gene, NS4A, uniquely determines the up- regulation of Autophagy.
Prevalence of depression and depressive symptoms in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus: Iranian experience

The findings show higher prevalence of depression in the sample in comparison with previous studies, suggesting that the prevalence of depressed patients varies across different populations.
Association of pre-miRNA-146a rs2910164 and pre‑miRNA-499 rs3746444 polymorphisms and susceptibility to rheumatoid arthritis.
It is demonstrated that the hsa-mir-499 rs3746444, but not mir-146a rs2910164, polymorphism is associated with an increased RA risk in a sample of the Iranian population.
Association between chemerin rs17173608 and vaspin rs2236242 gene polymorphisms and the metabolic syndrome, a preliminary report.
Cell death in health and disease
The machinery of cell death, where proteins now assumed to be cell death proteins may in fact have “day jobs” or multiple functions not appreciated by the researcher or physician, is studied.
