Scanning Electron Microscopy of the scale morphology in Cyprinid fish, Rutilus frisii kutum Kamenskii, 1901 (Actinopterygii: Cyprinidae)
- H. Esmaeili, Z. Gholami
- Biology
- 10 January 2011
It could be concluded that the shape and size of lepidonts on the circuli crest, the position, shape andsize of tubercles and the presence of both anterior and posterior radii may provide reliable taxonomic tools.

The prevalence of Giardia and Cryptosporidium in Ilam vegetables is significantly higher, and the contamination of lettuce is far greater, therefore, authorities should be more attentive to the field of education and the control of parasitic diseases.

The feeding ecology of Aphanius farsicus, a cyprinodontid fish endemic of a single landlocked river basin in central Iran, is investigated, for the first time, and it is found that these fish feed all year round due to the warm climate of its native distribution.
Histological and Morphological Studies of digestive tube and liver of the Persian tooth-carp, Aphanius persicus(Actinopterygii: Cyprinodontidae)
- M. Monsefi, Z. Gholami, H. Esmaeili
- Environmental Science
- 25 November 2010
The digestive tract histology of the Persian tooth-carp, Aphanius persicus, was investigated and it was showed this fish is heterodont, omnivores with no secretory stomach.
Scale surface microstructure and scale size in the tooth-carp genus Aphanius (Teleostei, Cyprinodontidae) from endorheic basins in Southwest Iran.

It is opined that scale surface morphology and microstructure cannot help in distinguishing the species, but can be employed to discriminate certain populations of A. sophiae, which corroborates earlier studies for the use of these indices in taxonomy.

Phylogenetic analysis of Aphanius from the endorheic Kor River Basin in the Zagros Mountains, South‐western Iran (Teleostei: Cyprinodontiformes: Cyprinodontidae)
- Z. Gholami, H. Esmaeili, D. Erpenbeck, B. Reichenbacher
- Environmental Science

The results indicate that an ancient exorheic Kor River Basin existed in the Late Miocene and Pliocene, and suggest that the splits of A. shirini and A. vladykovi can be linked to tectonic events in the Middle to LateMiocene, which created the highest altitudes in the Zagros Mountains, and led to isolation of populations.

Aphanius dispar (Holly, 1929) is an euryhaline tooth-carp fish which apparently prefers brackish waters of coastal areas of Iran and is the subject of a number of studies, mainly those aimed at differences in pathogenicity and parasite-host relationships.
