The article reviews culture in the U.S.A public school curriculum. We mainly discuss the role of religion in elementary education. We draw out some implications: given our frameworks, given the major issues, given the different points of view, when and how should the curriculum or particular courses incorporate the study of religion.
This article examines the relationship between student and teacher development and, drawing on evidence from research, it will demonstrate how student strategies have enabled teachers to gain a deeper understanding of the teaching and learning processes and have helped them to change the way they think about students and their learning.
The article is organized in four sections. The first describes the range of reforms and initiatives; the second summarizes the nature of the critique; the third presents new data profiling the orientations of one new segment of the teacher workforce; and a final section evaluates the implications.
