Contrasting Sensitivities of Escherichia coli Aconitases A and B to Oxidation and Iron Depletion
It is determined that the induction of AcnA during oxidative stress provides a mechanism to circumvent a block in the tricarboxylic acid cycle, and AcnB may be retained as the primary aconitase because the lability of its exposed cluster allows E. coli to sense and respond to iron depletion. Expand
Microbial Communities in Long-Term, Water-Flooded Petroleum Reservoirs with Different in situ Temperatures in the Huabei Oilfield, China
The distribution of microbial communities in the Menggulin and Ba19 blocks in the Huabei Oilfield, China, were studied based on 16S rRNA gene analysis and the archaeal communities were much more conserved within blocks and were not affected by the variation in the bacterial communities. Expand
Ethanol production from kitchen waste using the flocculating yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain KF-7
Abstract A process for producing ethanol from kitchen waste was developed in this study. The process consists of freshness preservation of the waste, saccharification of the sugars in the waste,Expand
Amycolicicoccus subflavus gen. nov., sp. nov., an actinomycete isolated from a saline soil contaminated by crude oil.
Chemotaxonomic data indicated that strain DQS3-9A1(T) differs from the present members of the suborder Corynebacterineae, and the creation of Amycolicicoccus subflavus gen. nov., sp. Expand
Degradation of petroleum hydrocarbons (C6-C40) and crude oil by a novel Dietzia strain.
This is the first study to report the different behaviors of a bacterial species toward crude oil degradation as well as a species of Dietzia degrading a wide range of hydrocarbons. Expand
Characteristic microbial community of a dry thermophilic methanogenic digester: its long-term stability and change with feeding
Thermophilic dry anaerobic digestion of sludge for cellulose methanization was acclimated at 53 °C for nearly 5 years using a waste paper-based medium and resulted in the deterioration of methane fermentation of the garbage stillage. Expand
Escherichia coli aconitases and oxidative stress: post-transcriptional regulation of sodA expression.
It is suggested that the aconitase proteins of E. coli serve as a protective buffer against the basal level of oxidative stress that accompanies aerobic growth by acting as a sink for reactive oxygen species and by modulating translation of the sodA transcript. Expand
Escherichia coli Transcriptome Dynamics during the Transition from Anaerobic to Aerobic Conditions*
Transcript profiling revealed transient changes suggesting that the peroxide stress response, methionine biosynthesis, and degradation of putrescine play important roles during the adaptation to aerobic conditions. Expand
Impacts of different nanoparticles on functional bacterial community in activated sludge.
Although the COD and NH4-N removal efficiencies were not or slightly reduced by the addition of ZnO-NP and Ag-NP, the functional bacterial community changed remarkably, including those closely related to Haliscomenobacter hydrossis, Zoogloea ramigera and Methyloversatilis universalis. Expand
Analysis of the Bacterial Community in Zaopei During Production of Chinese Luzhou-flavor Liquor
Bacteria closely related to Lactobacillus acetotolerans appeared to play a key role during Chinese liquor fermentation and the bacterial diversity shift observed by DGGE was also shown by the clone library analysis. Expand
