OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to clarify the relationship between the thickness of the roof of the glenoid fossa (RGF) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders (TMDs). METHODS Eighty-seven patients with symptoms and indications of TMD in one or both TMJs were referred for MRI. Cone-beam CT (3DX)(More)
STATEMENT OF PROBLEM Gold electroformed metal-ceramic restorations have been promoted as alternatives to conventional metal-ceramic restorations. However, little is known about the relationship between tooth preparation design and marginal adaptation for this type of crown. PURPOSE This study evaluated the influence of 3 different finish line designs on(More)
Root-filled teeth with fractured or discolored coronal aspects invariably need to be restored by crowns. The prepared abutment tooth is usually reinforced by a metallic post and core system. The grayish discoloration of the root, and consequently of the gingiva, caused by the metal color may be an enormous esthetic disadvantage in the anterior teeth. In(More)
PURPOSE To examine the influence of temporary cements on the strength of the bond formed between resin-based luting agents and dentin. METHODS An acrylic resin plate was luted to bovine dentin using one of three temporary cements; HY-Bond Temporary Cement Hard (HYB), Freegenol Temporary Pack (FTP), or Neodyne T (NDT). The control group (CON) was not(More)
This study evaluates the bonding characteristics of a lithium disilicate-based ceramic material (IPS Empress 2). Two sizes of disk specimens of the material were made, and three groups of disk pairs were separately surface-prepared using three techniques; etching with phosphoric acid, etching with hydrofluoric acid, and air-abrasion with alumina. Each group(More)
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of abutment materials on the color of IPS Empress 2 ceramic coping with different thicknesses. Ceramic coping specimens (12.0x12.0x0.8-2.0 mm) were fabricated from IPS Empress 2 material (Ingot-100, n=5/group). Abutment specimens were fabricated from a build-up composite, a gold alloy, or a(More)
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the influence of firing procedures on the marginal distortion of electroformed metal-ceramic crown restorations. METHOD AND MATERIALS Twenty-four standardized specimens were fabricated using a gold-electroforming system and were characterized by 3 finish line forms: shoulder (S-type), rounded shoulder (RS-type), and deep chamfer(More)
This article presents a technique for quantitatively evaluating the color of teeth, as well as color change in restorations and tooth surfaces. Through use of a custom template made of a thermoplastic polymer and a dental colorimeter, tooth surface color can be recorded periodically at the same location intraorally.
