A series of amino acid methyl ester hydrochlorides were prepared in good to excellent yields by the room temperature reaction of amino acids with methanol in the presence of trimethylchlorosilane. This method is not only compatible with natural amino acids, but also with other aromatic and aliphatic amino acids.
A series of 5-dialkyl(aryl)aminomethyl-8-hydroxyquinoline dansylates were synthesized and their fluoroionophoric properties toward representative alkali ions, alkaline earth ions and transition metal ions were investigated. Furfural was oxidized to furoic acid by molecular oxygen under catalysis by 150 nm-sized Ag(2)O/CuO (92%) or simply CuO (86.6%).
