OBJECTIVES Despite advances in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) treatment, many patients suffer from the disease and side effects. Atacicept is a fusion protein that blocks B-lymphocyte stimulator and a proliferation-inducing ligand, which are increased in patients with SLE. METHODS In this double-blind, placebo-controlled study, patients with… (More)
BACKGROUND Atrial fibrillation is associated with higher mortality. Identification of causes of death and contemporary risk factors for all-cause mortality may guide interventions. METHODS AND RESULTS In the Rivaroxaban Once Daily Oral Direct Factor Xa Inhibition Compared with Vitamin K Antagonism for Prevention of Stroke and Embolism Trial in Atrial… (More)
One of the main mechanisms in the pathogenesis of toxic liver damage is destabilization of the membranes of hepatocytes as a result of lipid peroxidation (LPO). In the case of such liver disorders, a pronounced protective action is offered by phenolic antioxidants such as -tocopherol , potassium phenosane, synthetic derivatives of hydroxycynnamic acids,… (More)
Peculiarities of SiO2-induced granulomas in the liver and subcutaneous fat were studied in C57B1/6, CBA/Lac, BALB/c, C57BR, and C3H/F mice. Infiltrative and fibrogenic responses were interrelated and strain-specific primarily due to various intensities of myelopoiesis.
The development of cirrhosis of the liver is largely dependent on functional activity of organotypic macrophages and the mononuclear phagocyte system (MPS) as a whole . There are indications in the literature of the depressed functional activity of the liver macrophages (Kupffer cells) in cirrhosis [i]. At the same time, we do not know how the functional… (More)
Preincubation of resident macrophages with 25-hydroxycholesterol decreased the lipopolysaccharide-induced expression of mRNAs of tumor, necrosis factor and interleukin-1, while 7-ketocholesterol stimulated the expression of the tumor necrosis factor mRNA. Tolerant macrophages characterized by decreased tumor necrosis factor secretion in response to… (More)
CCl4-induced hepatic fibrosis in mice was accompanied by insufficiency of bone marrow myelo- and erythropoiesis. Polymyxin B completely abolished these changes. This phenomenon can be explained by the development of macrophage endotoxin tolerance during hepatic fibrosis.
