Predominant role for C5b-9 in renal ischemia/reperfusion injury.
The membrane attack complex of complement (in which C5 and C6 participate) may account for the effect of complement on mouse renal I/R injury and is a potential target for prevention of I-R injury in this model. Expand
Hydrogen isotope ratios of individual lipids in lake sediments as novel tracers of climatic and environmental change: a surface sediment test
We determined hydrogen isotope ratios of modern lake-waters and individual lipids from surface sediments of 36 lakes in the eastern North America. The lakes selected lie on two transects (south–north… Expand

The purification and characterization of xylanase from Aspergillus ficuum AF-98 were investigated and it was found that the enzyme exhibited K(m) and V(max) values of 3.267 mg/mL, 18.38 M/min/mg for beechwood xylan and 3.1M/min-mg for birchwoodxylan, respectively. Expand
Coronavirus nsp10/nsp16 Methyltransferase Can Be Targeted by nsp10-Derived Peptide In Vitro and In Vivo To Reduce Replication and Pathogenesis
Interestingly, the peptide TP29 exerted robust inhibitory effects in vivo in MHV-infected mice by impairing MHV virulence and pathogenesis through suppressing virus replication and enhancing type I interferon production at an early stage of infection. Expand
Bacterial Genome Editing with CRISPR-Cas9: Deletion, Integration, Single Nucleotide Modification, and Desirable "Clean" Mutant Selection in Clostridium beijerinckii as an Example.

By combining inducible expression of Cas9 and plasmid-borne editing templates, this study successfully achieved gene deletion and integration with high efficiency in single steps and employed CRISPR-Cas9 as an efficient tool for selecting desirable "clean" mutants in this study. Expand
Oxidative modification of von Willebrand factor by neutrophil oxidants inhibits its cleavage by ADAMTS13.
Findings indicate that reactive oxygen species released by activated neutrophils have a prothrombotic effect, mediated in part by inhibition of VWF cleavage by ADAMTS13. Expand
What makes an aquaporin a glycerol channel? A comparative study of AqpZ and GlpF.
Analysis of substrate-protein interactions suggests that steric restriction of AqpZ is the main contribution to this large barrier, which can be attributed to the more pronounced structural asymmetry of GlpF, which may play a role in attracting glycerol. Expand
Fibrin clot structure and mechanics associated with specific oxidation of methionine residues in fibrinogen.
It is speculated that methionine oxidation of specific residues may be related to hindered lateral aggregation of protofibrils in fibrin gels, and both the linear and nonlinear mechanical properties of oxidized fibr in gels are found to be altered with oxidation. Expand

Although the central pore of AQP1 is found to be gas permeable, the pure POPE bilayer provides a much larger cross-sectional area, thus exhibiting a much lower free energy barrier for CO2 and O2 permeation, which may only be physiologically relevant in membranes of low gas permeability. Expand
Latent tuberculosis infection in rural China: baseline results of a population-based, multicentre, prospective cohort study.
The results suggest that the prevalence of latent tuberculosis in China might be overestimated by skin tests compared with interferon-γ release assays. Expand
