A new alkaloid AM-2282 OF Streptomyces origin. Taxonomy, fermentation, isolation and preliminary characterization.
The producing strain, AM-2282 was classified as a new species and the name, Streptomyces staurosporeus AWAYA, TAKAHASHI and OMURA, nov. is proposed to show antimicrobial activity against fungi and yeast.

The morphological, cultural, physiological and biochemical characteristics of a new actinomycete strain producing a new antibiotic, setamycin are described and the name Kitasatosporia is proposed, for which the type species is K. setalba.

The empirical formula of antibiotic asukamycin has been proposed as C29H22N2O9 (M.W. 542) and an acute toxicity of the antibiotic in mice is LD50 48.5 mg/kg by intraperitoneal injection and it has no effect on mice when it was administered by 450mg/kg per os.
