Molecular, morphological, ultrastructural and life-cycle data indicate that T. solenopsae must be assigned to a new genus, and a new combination, Kneallhazia solenopae is proposed, which combines diplokaryotic spores and megaspores with octets of octospores within sporophorous vesicles.

The microsporidium parasitizing Inland Bearded Dragons Pogona vitticeps, and developing primarily in macrophages within foci of granulomatous inflammation of different organs, is described as a new species Encephalitozoon pogonae, which is closely related to E. lacertae and E. cuniculi.
