Laboratory Study of the Intracapsular Development and Juvenile Growth of the Banded Murex, Hexaplex trunculus
- Y. Lahbib, S. Abidli, N. T. E. Menif
- Environmental Science, Biology
- 1 February 2010
Observations on the intracapsular development showed that H. trunculus is a spiralian unequal-cleaving gastropod, with polar lobes being extruded at early segmentation, and the weight growth rhythm was irregular with alternation between fast and slow increases observed over the rearing experiment.

Microplastics (MPs) in sediments from the complex lagoon-channel of Bizerte were investigated, for the first time, to evaluate the occurrence and abundance of MPs in Tunisia. After density separation…
First record of butyltin body burden and imposex status in Hexaplex trunculus (L.) along the Tunisian coast.
- Y. Lahbib, S. Abidli, J. Chiffoleau, B. Averty, N. T. El Menif
- Environmental ScienceJournal of Environmental Monitoring
- 1 June 2009
Temporal comparison of the data indicates some evidence of imposex recovery in most affected populations, and will serve as a reference for long-term monitoring of butyltin contamination in the Tunisian coast, where TBT restrictions were not yet implemented.
Imposex level and penis malformation in Hexaplex trunculus from the Tunisian coast
- Y. Lahbib, S. Abidli, N. T. E. Menif
- Environmental Science
- 1 March 2008
Data is provided on imposex level and penis malformations in H. trunculus from the Tunisian Coast that could be used as a starting point for future monitoring programs and for temporal trend surveillance related to TBT pollution in Tunisia where the use of TBT is not yet banned.
Relative Growth and Reproduction in Tunisian Populations of Hexaplex trunculus with Contrasting Imposex Levels
- Y. Lahbib, S. Abidli, N. Trigui El Menif
- Environmental Science
- 27 November 2009
The assessment of reproductive activity, made by calculating fecundity and using 2 condition indices, showed that the Menzel Jemil population was reproductively more active, and the Bizerta Channel population was severely affected by imposex.
Effects of TBT on the imposex development, reproduction and mortality in Hexaplex trunculus (Gastropoda: Muricidae)

Tributyltin exposure experiments at 5 and 50 ng l−1 concentrations were carried out on female Hexaplex trunculus collected during the reproductive season from a site weakly-affected by imposex, and TBT had no effect on the number of egg-capsules laid per female nor on theNumber of eggs per capsule.

Comparison of metal concentrations in the soft tissues of the edible gastropod Hexaplex trunculus along the Tunisian coast showed that values exceeded standards in several localities.
