Ethnic differences in the prevalence of the homozygous deleted genotype of glutathione S-transferase theta.
The results indicate that there are major differences in the prevalence of this trait attributable to ethnicity and that ethnic origin even among Caucasians should be considered in studies of gene-environment interaction involving this polymorphism. Expand
Genetic diversity in the northernmost Oryza rufipogon populations estimated by SSR markers
It is concluded that a relatively high level of genetic variation resided in the northern O. rufipogon populations and continued efforts of conservation of these populations are needed; and that the conservation of some Chaling and Dongxiang populations has been effective in preventing gene flow from cultivated rice. Serum DDT, age at menarche, and abnormal menstrual cycle length
Exposure to dichlorodiphenyl trichloroethane (DDT) exposure was associated with earlier age at menarche and increased risk of experiencing a shortened menstrual cycle. Expand
Body mass index and asthma in adults in families of subjects with asthma in Anqing, China.
Both underweight and overweight are associated with an increased risk of asthma among adults in families of subjects with asthma living in rural China, and both under- and overweight were associated with asthma in women. Expand
Body mass index and cardiovascular risk factors in a rural Chinese population.
Data from a very lean Chinese population confirm independent relations between body mass and cardiovascular risk factors observed in predominantly overweight Western populations and extend the range of associations to lower BMI levels than do previous studies. Expand
Asthma, rhinitis, and skin test reactivity to aeroallergens in families of asthmatic subjects in Anqing, China.
Sensitization to perennial aeroallergens was associated with asthma among families of asthmatic subjects in rural China, and sensitization to silk was the strongest predictor of rhinitis in this population. Expand
Leptin concentrations in relation to overall adiposity, fat distribution, and blood pressure in a rural Chinese population
A strong positive relationship between overall adiposity and leptin levels in both men and women in a rural Chinese population is observed, and leptin concentrations were significantly associated with central obesity measured by waist to hip ratio and abdominal skinfold, independent of overall obesity. Molecular epidemiology of preterm delivery: methodology and challenges.
The major environmental, nutritional and social factors as well as clinical variables known or suspected to be associated with PTD will be used to test for gene-environment interactions and to improve understanding of genetic influences on PTD and gene- Environment interactions. Expand

The prevalence of nicotine dependence in male current smokers in China was comparable to that reported in previous US and European studies, and the findings suggest that genetic influences may play an important role in vulnerability to nicotine addiction. Expand
Angiotensinogen gene polymorphisms M235T/T174M: no excess transmission to hypertensive Chinese.
This study provides no evidence that either allele of M235T or T174M contributes to hypertension in this Chinese population, and the results were also negative in all age groups and for the affected offspring with blood pressure values >/=160/95 mm Hg. Expand
