We report on magnetic properties and a Co K-edge X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) study of polycrystalline bulk Zn/sub 1-x/Co/sub x/O (x=0.10,0.15,0.17) samples. Polycrystalline HoMn/sub 1-x/Co/sub x/O/sub 3/ was synthesized by solid-state reaction. The infrared active phonons of the samples were investigated. The infrared transmission spectra of the sample at x = 0-0.8 doping level was also measured at room temperature.
