Polymorphism in the brown alga Dictyota dichotoma (Dictyotales, Phaeophyceae) from Korea
- I. Hwang, Hyung-seop Kim, Wook-Jae Lee
- Environmental Science
- 11 May 2005
The results suggest that the two types of D. dichotoma from Korea should be classified as a single species and that they may be in the process of speciation due to geographical isolation (allopatric speciation).
Phylogenetic relationship among several genera of Dictyotaceae (Dictyotales, Phaeophyceae) based on 18S rRNA and partial rbcL gene sequences
- Wook-Jae Lee, K. Bae
- Biology
- 1 June 2002
The data suggest that the status of the meristem cells should not be a criterion for separating tribes within the family Dictyotaceae and that other hierarchical systems should be adopted to properly reflect phylogenetic relationships.
Inhibitory effect of Jeju endemic seaweeds on the production of pro-inflammatory mediators in mouse macrophage cell line RAW 264.7
The anti-inflammatory effects and low cell toxicity of these seaweed extracts suggest potential therapeutic applications in the regulation of the inflammatory response.
Antioxidative and antimicrobial activities of Sargassum muticum extracts
- Jiyoung Kim, Junga Lee, Kil-Nam Kim, W. Yoon, Wook-Jae Lee, S. Park
- Chemistry
- 2007
The solvent extracts of Sargassum muticum, which were extracted by using several solvents with different polarities, were prepared for use as natural preservatives. The S. muticum extract with 80%…
Jeju seaweeds suppress lipopolysaccharide-stimulated proinflammatory response in RAW 264.7 murine macrophages.
The findings suggest that Jeju seaweed extracts have potential therapeutic applications for inflammatory responses, and are suggested to be a potential therapeutic application for TNF-α patients.
Anti-inflammatory effects of apo-9′-fucoxanthinone from the brown alga, Sargassum muticum
- E. Yang, Y. Ham, Wook-Jae Lee, N. Lee, C. Hyun
- Biology, MedicineDARU Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences
- 26 July 2013
This is the first report describing effective anti-inflammatory activity for apo-9’-fucoxanthinone′-fu Coxanthnone isolated from S. muticum, and may be a good candidate for delaying the progression of human inflammatory diseases and warrants further studies.
Anti-inflammatory effects of isoketocharbroic acid from brown alga, Sargassum micracanthum
To the best of the knowledge, this is the first study to show that isoketochabrolic acid isolated from S. micracanthum has a potent anti-inflammatory activity and might be useful as an anti- inflammatory health supplement or functional cosmetics.
Taxonomic reappraisal of Dilophus okamurae (Dictyotales, Phaeophyta) from the western Pacific Ocean
- I. Hwang, Wook-Jae Lee, Hyung-seop Kim, O. De Clerck
- Biology
- 1 January 2009
Molecular phylogenetic analyses, based on three separate loci, large subunit rDNA (LSU), rbcL and psbA confirm the close phylogenetic relationship between D. okamurae and R. radicans, and the recently described genus Rugulopteryx.
Acanthoic Acid Inhibits Melanogenesis through Tyrosinase Down-regulation and Melanogenic Gene Expression in B16 Melanoma Cells
- W. Yoon, Y. Ham, H. Yoon, Wook-Jae Lee, N. Lee, C. Hyun
- BiologyNatural Product Communications
- 1 October 2013
Results indicate that ACAN effectively inhibits melanin biosynthesis through down-regulation of MITF and thus could be useful as a new skin-whitening agent.
New records of Myelophycus cavus (Scytosiphonaceae, Phaeophyceae) in Korea and the taxonomic position of the genus on the basis of a plastid DNA phylogeny
- T. Cho, G. Cho, H. Yoon, S. Boo, Wook-Jae Lee
- Biology, Environmental Science
- 1 May 2003
Supporting the recent classification of five families in the Ectocarpales, data of plastid DNA sequences show that Myelophycus consistently formed a monophyletic clade with a maximum support together with the Scytosiphonaceae.
