We evaluated the feasibility of performing preoperative spiral CT of the maxilla and mandible with a radiation dose similar to that used for conventional panoramic radiography. The skin entrance doses of radiation used for spiral CT (collimation, 1 mm; pitch, 2; tube voltage, 80 kV; tube current, 40 mA) and for panoramic radiography (75 kV, 8 mA, 15(More)
An investigation with respect to position of the mandibular condyles in relation to maximal vertical mouth opening was undertaken. For this purpose, 51 subjects of different nationalities were examined. None of the 51 persons had a TMJ disorder. The mobility of the mandible in different directions was clinically measured. With the use of two different(More)
In the 2011 IEEE Visualization Contest, the dataset represented a high-resolution simulation of a centrifugal pump operating below optimal speed. The goal was to find suitable visualization techniques to identify regions of rotating stall that impede the pump's effectiveness. The winning entry split analysis of the pump into three parts based on the pump's(More)
OBJECTIVE To test the null hypothesis of no significant differences in (1) the duration of the post-deglutory, cranial tongue rest position (CTP) between different functional orofacial conditions and (2) the presence or absence of an oral screen (OS) in subjects with a habitual open-mouth posture. SUBJECTS Twenty-nine subjects (aged 6-16; mean: 9.69(More)
The aim of this study was to investigate whether anaesthesia and contrast medium injection alter the biomechanics of the TMJ, thus influencing the arthrographic diagnosis in patients with anterior disc displacement with reduction. Opening and closing movements were recorded in nine patients by means of an opto-electronic motion recorder (Jaws 3D) before(More)
The aim of this paper is to describe a very seldomly observed case of a unilateral dorsal luxation of the disc of the temporomandibular joint. The luxation happened during intense laughing in a movie-theater and was first noticed two days later. The diagnosis of this unilaterally shifted and fixed mandible was clearly seen on the double-contrast arthrogram.(More)
