BACKGROUND Our previous studies suggested that deoxyschizandrin (DSD) and schisantherin A (STA) may have cardioprotective effects, but information in this regard is lacking. Therefore, we explored the protective role of DSD and STA in myocardial ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS Anesthetized male rats were treated once with(More)
Diabetes mellitus is a common metabolic disease characterized by a state of oxidative stress, inflammation and endothelial dysfunction. This malady can lead to a number of complications such as ischemic heart disease, nephropathy, neuropathy, retinopathy and impaired wound healing. The etiology of diabetic complications is multifactorial, and is closely(More)
In the present study, an offline analytical method combining β1-adrenergic receptor/cell membrane chromatography (β1-AR/CMC) with ultra-performance liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry (UPLC/MS) was used for direct recognition, separation, and identification of β1-AR inhibitors from Evodia rutaecarpa (Juss) Benth, by which rutaecarpine and evodiamine(More)
Tuberous sclerosis (TS) is a multisystem disorder characterized by widespread hamartomas in multiple organs, including the skeleton. We present a case of bone involvement in a patient with TS and concomitant pulmonary adenocarcinoma. Bone scintigraphy is useful in distinguishing the TS bone lesions from osteoblastic metastases.
The present study explored the effect of ghrelin in protecting neurons from apoptosis in sepsis-associated encephalopathy. Ghrelin (100 nM) increased the cell viability treated with lipopolysaccharide (1.0 μg/ml, 24 h). The expression of p-Akt and Bcl-2 were decreased and caspase-3 increased both in lipopolysaccharide-treated primary hippocampal cultures(More)
Several conditions that can cause diffuse hepatic or splenic uptake of Tc-99m methylene diphosphonate (Tc-99m MDP) have been previously reported. Nevertheless, diffuse abnormal liver and spleen uptake of Tc-99m MDP associated with intravenous injection of magnetic resonance imaging contrast gadolinium-diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid is not previously(More)
Solitary fibrous tumor of the liver was rarely documented. F-FDG PET/CT imaging of malignant hepatic solitary fibrous tumor in a 49-year-old male patient was reported. The multifocal hepatic lesions demonstrated avid FDG uptake. FDG PET/CT might be potentially useful in the differentiation of benign and malignant solitary fibrous tumor.
Many epidemiological investigations have consistently demonstrated the immunotoxicity of fine particulate matter (PM2.5), but the underlying molecular mechanism remains unclear and needs to be elucidated. In this work, the immune cells, including pulmonary macrophages of SD rats and Raw264.7 cells, were applied to further investigate the effect of PM2.5 on(More)
Fargesin displayed similar chromatographic retention peak to metoprolol in the cardiac muscle/cell membrane chromatography (CM/CMC) and β1 adrenergic receptor/cell membrane chromatography (β1AR/CMC) models. To provide more biological information about fargesin, we investigated the effects of fargesin on isoproterenol-(ISO-) induced cells injury in the high(More)
A 60-year-old man with a history of surgical resection of leiomyosarcoma of the right kidney had a bone scan to evaluate possible metastatic osseous disease. The bone scan showed significantly increased Tc-99m MDP activity in the right abdomen, corresponding to a heterogeneous mass in the right retroperitoneal region on the subsequent abdominal CT scan.(More)
