PURPOSE Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) reduces symptoms and improves survival in patients with advanced heart failure (New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class III-IV), reduced ejection fraction, and wide QRS complex. Whether CRT has the same benefit also in asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic heart failure patients is controversial. Our(More)
AIMS The aim of this review is to assess the effects of exercise training on the symptoms of depression in heart failure (HF) patients. METHODS AND RESULTS Randomized controlled trials of exercise training in patients with HF and symptoms of depression were identified. The depression data were pooled using meta-analysis, and 19 studies were identified,(More)
Recently, a new subset of T helper (Th) cell that predominantly secret cytokine interleukin-22 (IL-22) is identified, termed Th22 cells. The Th22 subset has been demonstrated to be involved in immunity and tissue inflammation. However, the existence of Th22 cells and role of IL-22 in acute viral myocarditis (AVMC) remain unknown. BALB/c mice were(More)
BACKGROUND The IL-23/Th17 pathway is implicated in the pathogenesis of a number of chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. Whether it regulates the viral myocarditis (VMC) is unknown. RESULTS To examine the pathogenesis role of IL-23/Th17 axis in VMC, we used male BALB/c mice to induced VMC by Coxsackie virus B3 (CVB3) peritoneal injection. IL-23,(More)
OBJECTIVE to observe the alteration of T helper cells 17(Th17) in mice with acute viral myocarditis (VMC) induced by coxsackie virus B3 (CVB3), explore the role of Th17 in mice VMC. METHODS CVB3 or PBS was peritoneally injected to Balb/c male mice. Pathological scores were determined in hematoxylin-eosin stained sections and flow cytometric analysis was(More)
The impact of sildenafil on pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) in Chinese patients has been less investigated. A prospective, open-label, uncontrolled and multicenter study, therefore, was carried out to address this issue. Ninety patients with multicause-induced PAH received oral sildenafil (75 mg/day) for 12 weeks. The 6-minute walk test (SMWT) and(More)
OBJECTIVE To explore whether the Astragalus injection (AI) has effect for reversing left ventricular hypertrophy and myocardial fibrosis induced by renal vascular hypertension in rats. METHODS Thirty male SD rats were randomized equally into three groups: the AI group, the control group and the sham-operated group. All rats, except those in the(More)
AIM Laparoscopic reversal of Hartmann's procedure is technically demanding. We evaluated the technical aspects and outcome of a standardized approach in a single centre and examined the feasibility of including this into training curricula. METHOD The procedure entails a laparoscopy for adhesiolysis and identification and mobilization of the rectal stump.(More)
BACKGROUND We attempted to clarify the association between dopamine receptor D4 (DRD4) 48-bp variable number of tandem repeats (VNTR) polymorphism and Tourette's syndrome. METHODS The DRD4 48-bp VNTR polymorphism was genotyped in 291 Tourette's syndrome patients (including 218 trios) and 405 controls. Chi-square and transmission disequilibrium test(More)
Viral myocarditis (VMC) is a common cardiovascular disease, and microRNAs (miRNAs) have been postulated to be involved in its pathology. Using microarrays, we observed that miRNA-21 and -146b were upregulated in a murine model of VMC. We also found that miRNA-451 was downregulated. In vivo silencing of miRNA-21 and -146b resulted in less-severe VMC.(More)
