Buffer-stock” models of saving are now standard in the consumption literature. This paper builds theoretical foundations for rigorous understanding of the main features of such models, including the existence of a target wealth ratio and the proposition that aggregate consumption growth equals aggregate income growth in a small open economy populated by(More)
Viral myocarditis (VMC) is a common cardiovascular disease, and microRNAs (miRNAs) have been postulated to be involved in its pathology. Using microarrays, we observed that miRNA-21 and -146b were upregulated in a murine model of VMC. We also found that miRNA-451 was downregulated. In vivo silencing of miRNA-21 and -146b resulted in less-severe VMC.(More)
AIMS The aim of this review is to assess the effects of exercise training on the symptoms of depression in heart failure (HF) patients. METHODS AND RESULTS Randomized controlled trials of exercise training in patients with HF and symptoms of depression were identified. The depression data were pooled using meta-analysis, and 19 studies were identified,(More)
AIM Laparoscopic reversal of Hartmann's procedure is technically demanding. We evaluated the technical aspects and outcome of a standardized approach in a single centre and examined the feasibility of including this into training curricula. METHOD The procedure entails a laparoscopy for adhesiolysis and identification and mobilization of the rectal stump.(More)
OBJECTIVE We wanted to evaluate the image quality and diagnostic value of 64-slice dual-source computed tomography (DSCT) coronary angiography in patients with atrial fibrillation (Afib). MATERIALS AND METHODS The coronary arteries of 22 Afib patients seen on DSCT were classified into 15 segments and the imaging quality (excellent, good, moderate and(More)
The conventional wisdom holds that the short-run demand for money is unstable. This paper challenges the conventional view by finding a stable demand for M1 in U.S. data from 1959 through 1993. The approach follows previous work in interpreting long-run money demand as a cointegrating relation, and it uses Goldfeld’s partial-adjustment model to interpret(More)
OBJECTIVE in septic mice, myocardial calpain was activated and induced caspase-3 activation, the association between calpain activation and apoptosis was explored in this experiment. METHODS in in vivo model, adult C57 mice were injected with lipopolysaccharide (LPS, 4 mg/kg, i.p.) to induce sepsis. Myocardial calpain and caspase-3 activities, protein(More)
OBJECTIVES Regulatory B cells (Bregs) have recently been implicated in the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases. However, their role in the pathogenesis of dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) remains uncertain. We examined the levels of circulating interleukin 10 (IL-10)-secreting Bregs in patients with DCM. METHODS The frequency of CD19+IL-10+-, CD19+CD5+-,(More)
The IL-23/Th17 pathway is implicated in the pathogenesis of a number of chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. Whether it regulates the viral myocarditis (VMC) is unknown. To examine the pathogenesis role of IL-23/Th17 axis in VMC, we used male BALB/c mice to induced VMC by Coxsackie virus B3 (CVB3) peritoneal injection. IL-23, IL-17, and signal(More)
OBJECTIVE to observe the alteration of T helper cells 17(Th17) in mice with acute viral myocarditis (VMC) induced by coxsackie virus B3 (CVB3), explore the role of Th17 in mice VMC. METHODS CVB3 or PBS was peritoneally injected to Balb/c male mice. Pathological scores were determined in hematoxylin-eosin stained sections and flow cytometric analysis was(More)
