The results of a combined clinical and laboratory study in 55 patients throughout the leprosy spectrum are reported. Thirty one of these patients suffered from an inflammatory peripheral polyarthritis which has not been previously described and which was unassociated with the characteristics of erythema nodosum leprosum reactions or with Charcot's joints.(More)
In a combined clinical, radiological, and laboratory study of 77 patients throughout the leprosy spectrum, 10 patients had an enthesitis which has not been described previously as far as is known and which was not associated with the characteristics of erythema nodosum leprosum reactions. C reactive protein and alpha 1 acid glycoprotein values were(More)
UNLABELLED Ketamine and midazolam, applied as intravenous medication for conscious sedation in day-case maxillo-facial surgery, has been proven to be superior to pentazocine and midazolam concerning cardiovascular parameters and respiratory depression. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of low-dose ketamine/midazolam on anxiety, analgesia,(More)
Although histamine release is recognised as a common event during anaesthesia and surgery, few clinicians judge the resultant cardiorespiratory disturbances serious enough to warrant prophylaxis with antihistamines. We have assessed the incidence and importance of histamine release in a randomised 2 x 2 factorial study. 240 patients representing a routine(More)
The opioid agonists morphine (selective for mu-receptors) and ethylketocyclazocine (selective for kappa-receptors), at concentrations evoking strong effects in neuronal structures, did not significantly affect the configuration of the intracellularly recorded action potential and the force of contraction in ventricular heart muscle isolated from guinea(More)
Serum immunoreactive gastrin is raised in some patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). In this paper paired samples taken within 30 minutes of each other show that this phenomenon is reproducible. Dilution curves show identity between gastrin from RA patients and from patients with no RA, and the raised immunoreactive gastrin concentration is demonstrable(More)

As induction agents for cardioanesthesia, sufentanil (S) and fentanyl (F) are usually employed in combination with nondepolarizing muscle relaxants. We investigated potential interactions of these opioids with the relaxant component, paying special regard to the role of muscular rigidity and opioid-induced alterations of hemodynamics. Narcotic anesthesia(More)
The effects of intra-articular injection of triamcinolone hexacetonide on the rate of clearance of radioactive xenon (133Xe) was studied in 11 patients with rheumatoid arthritis. No effect of the corticosteroid injection was observed, which suggests that the drug has no immediate effect on synovial blood vessels.
