Insulin and Cortisol Promote Leptin Production in Cultured Human Fat Cells
- M. Wabitsch, Per Bo Jensen, H. Hauner
- Biology, MedicineDiabetes
- 1 October 1996
Results clearly indicate that both insulin and cortisol are potent and possibly physiological regulators of leptin expression in human adipose tissue.
Body composition in 5-18-y-old obese children and adolescents before and after weight reduction as assessed by deuterium dilution and bioelectrical impedance analysis.
- M. Wabitsch, U. Braun, C. Fusch
- MedicineAmerican Journal of Clinical Nutrition
- 1 July 1996
Individual TBW values before and after weight loss can be predicted by BIA with acceptable accuracy by using the developed equation, however, prediction of small individual changes in TBW during weight loss is not possible by Bia.
Defective collagen fibril formation and mineralization in osteogenesis imperfecta with congenital joint contractures (Bruck syndrome)
- R. Brenner, U. Vetter, H. Stöss, P. Müller, W. Teller
- Medicine, BiologyEuropean Journal of Pediatrics
- 1 June 1993
The biochemical studies indicate that the underlying defect involves defective fibril-formation of collagen type I leading to an altered mineralization of bone.
Contribution of androgens to the gender difference in leptin production in obese children and adolescents.
- M. Wabitsch, W. Blum, H. Hauner
- Biology, MedicineJournal of Clinical Investigation
- 15 August 1997
The results suggest that, apart from differences in body fat mass, the higher androgen concentrations in obese boys are responsible for the lower leptin serum concentrations compared with obese girls.
The role of growth hormone/insulin-like growth factors in adipocyte differentiation.

Body fat distribution and steroid hormone concentrations in obese adolescent girls before and after weight reduction.
- M. Wabitsch, H. Hauner, W. Teller
- Medicine, BiologyJournal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism
- 1 December 1995
It is suggested that obese girls with an abdominal pattern of fat distribution exhibit more pronounced steroid hormone aberrations, in particular a high androgenic activity, than girls with a gluteal-femoral pattern ofFat distribution, as well as sex hormone-binding globulin and free cortisol levels increased significantly.
25-hydroxyvitamin D, 24, 25-dihydroxyvitamin D and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D in human cerebrospinal fluid
- S. Balabanova, H. Richter, W. Teller
- Medicine, BiologyKlinische Wochenschrift
- 15 November 1984
The authors' findings showed vitamin D metabolites to be present in human CSF and plasma from 46 adult patients who had no endocrine disorders and were undergoing routine diagnostic lumbar puncture because of suspected or proved prolapse of a disc.
Longitudinal analysis of somatic development in paediatric patients with IDDM: genetic influences on height and weight
- R. Holl, E. Heinze, M. Seifert, M. Grabert, W. Teller
- MedicineDiabetologia
- 1 September 1994
During the course of diabetes, longitudinal growth is temporarily reduced and maturation is delayed in children with diabetes compared to unaffected siblings, and as a group, children with IDDM become significantly overweight, which is likely to increase the cardiovascular risk during adulthood.
Reduced pancreatic insulin release and reduced peripheral insulin sensitivity contribute to hyperglycaemia in cystic fibrosis
Early insulin release is reduced in response to i.v.-glucose, while in the oral glucose tolerance test, insulin secretion is quantitatively preserved, but delayed, which is a major factor for impaired glucose tolerance and diabetes mellitus in CF patients.
Urinary excretion of acid mucopolysaccharides in normal children and patients with gargoylism.
