Virucidal activity of hypericin against enveloped and non-enveloped DNA and RNA viruses.
In vivo and in vitro data indicate that the mechanism of viral inactivation for hypericin is dependent upon the presence of a viral lipid envelope, and the drug was virucidal to all enveloped viruses tested. Expand
Antirhino/enteroviral vinylacetylene benzimidazoles: a study of their activity and oral plasma levels in mice.
The present study concentrated on fluoro substitution of this class of molecules and found that fluorine substitution directly on the left-hand aromatic ring does give good oral blood levels and fluorine incorporation at other positions in the molecule was not as effective at maintaining either the activity or the oral plasma levels. Evaluation of the anti-influenza virus activities of 1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-ylcyanamide (LY217896) and its sodium salt
Mice treated initially with protective levels of LY217896 were resistant to a subsequent challenge of influenza virus in the absence of the compound, indicating that the animals were able to develop immunity to the initial infection. Expand
Synthesis and antiviral activity of C2 analogs of enviroxime: an exploration of the role of critical functionality.
Results show that an amino hydrogen at C2 is strongly hydrogen bonded to the N1 sulfonyl oxygen, which in the case of Enviroxime may act to enhance the activity by holding the second hydrogen in a desirable orientation for interaction at an antiviral site. Expand
Synthesis, antiviral activity, and biological properties of vinylacetylene analogs of enviroxime
A series of vinylacetylene analogs of Enviroxime (1) was synthesized. The new compounds are potent inhibitors of poliovirus in tissue culture. Cross-sensitivity with Enviroxime-derived mutants showsExpand
Biochemical and microbiological studies on 6-substituted penicillins.
A series of 6-a substituted penicillins has been synthesized in the laboratories, and examined for activities in both the transpeptidase system and by antibacterial assay, finding that any substitution in the C6 a position of penicillin in this series reduces both enzyme inhibition and antibacterial activity. Imidazo[1,2-a]pyrimidines and imidazo[1,2-a]pyrazines: the role of nitrogen position in inotropic activity.
Congestive heart failure is a major medical problem for which existing medicaments have provided limited benefit. Recent new experimental drugs, including imidazo[4,5-b]- and imidazo[4,5-c]pyridines,Expand
The effects of antirhino- and enteroviral vinylacetylene benzimidazoles on cytochrome P450 function and hepatic porphyrin levels in mice.
While all four selected compounds displayed potent antiviral activity and two of the compounds exhibited acceptable pharmacokinetic properties, the hepatic effects of these latter two compounds suggest the potential for drug induced porphyria with multidose therapeutic use. Expand
