A family of coupled nanostrips with varying dimensions is demonstrated exhibiting optical magnetic responses across the whole visible spectrum, from red to blue. We refer to such a phenomenon as rainbow magnetism. The experimental and analytical studies of such structures provide us with a universal building block and a general recipe for producing(More)
A one-dimensional diatomic meta-chain with equal-size holes and different-length slits is designed. Broadband coherent magnetic plasmon waves (MPW) are formed in such a system, excited by both the electric resonance in the slits and the magnetic resonance in the holes in a wide range of incidence angles (0 40   ) and broad frequency bands (200–230 THz).(More)
We present novel metamaterial structures based upon various planar wallpaper groups, in both hexagonal and square unit cells. An investigation of metamaterials consisting of one, two, and three unique sub-lattices with resonant frequencies in the terahertz (THz) was performed. We describe the theory, perform simulations, and conduct experiments to(More)
We show by pump-probe spectroscopy that the optical response of a fishnet metamaterial can be modulated on the femtosecond time scale. The modulation dynamics is dominated by pump-induced changes in the constituting dielectric medium, but the strength of modulation is dramatically enhanced through the plasmon resonance. The pump-induced spectral responses(More)
We experimentally demonstrate that hybridized nanocavities in optically thick metal films radiate in coherence, and act as an efficient single-polarized plasmonic nano-antenna array. We employ propagating and localized plasmons to enhance polarization control along one axis, with total suppression of the perpendicular polarization component. The(More)
Vanadium dioxide (VO 2) is a promising reconfigurable optical material and has long been a focus of condensed matter research owing to its distinctive semiconductor-to-metal phase transition (SMT), a feature that has stimulated recent development of thermally reconfigurable photonic, plasmonic, and metamaterial structures. Here, we integrate VO 2 onto(More)
The influence of low frequency (50 Hz repetition rate) pulsed electromagnetic field (EMF) on PC12 cell neurite outgrowth in vitro was investigated in this study. We studied the percentage of neurite bearing cells, average length of neurites, and directivity of neurite outgrowth in PC12 cells cultured for 96 h in the presence of nerve growth factor (NGF).(More)
Dynamical control of metamaterials by adjusting their shape and structures has been developed to achieve desired optical functionalities and to enable modulation and selection of spectra responses. However it is still challenging to realize such a manipulation at large scale. Recently, it has been shown that the desired high (or low) symmetry metamaterials(More)
Although the importance of DNA vaccines, especially as a priming immunization has been well established in numerous HIV vaccine studies, the immunogenictiy of DNA vaccines is generally moderate. Novel adjuvant is in urgent need for improving the immunogenicity of DNA vaccine. Polysaccharide and nucleic acid fraction extracted by hot phenol method from(More)
