With the aid of TV-image analysis the number, the area and the density features of melanin granules in neurocytes of the substantia nigra in a group of 3-month-old naive male rats and in a 21-month-old group of male rats treated for 18 months with saline, (-)deprenyl and (-)parafluorodeprenyl, respectively, were determined. According to the Kolmogorov(More)
OBJECTIVE Histological examination of specimens obtained by forceps biopsy sampling of gastric polyps is of limited accuracy, and their management on this basis is therefore controversial. The aim of this prospective study was to assess the value of forceps biopsy sampling in establishing the correct diagnosis revealed by endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR).(More)
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Histological examination of specimens obtained by forceps biopsy sampling of gastric lesions is of limited accuracy, and their management on this basis is therefore controversial. Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) was initially developed in Japan for the resection of early gastric cancer (EGC). The potential use of EMR as a diagnostic(More)
BACKGROUND EMR is a widely used treatment option for gastric adenoma and early gastric cancer, but, there are no data on its use in Hungary. The aim of this study was to assess the diagnostic and therapeutic efficacy of EMR. PATIENTS 44 patients (30 females, 14 males, mean age: 67 years) were studied between 1994 and 2005; 33 had severe concomitant(More)
Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a major opportunistic pathogen in cystic fibrosis (CF) patients and causes a wide range of infections among other susceptible populations. Its inherent resistance to many antimicrobials also makes it difficult to treat infections with this pathogen. Recent evidence has highlighted the diversity of this species, yet despite this,(More)
SSAO/VAP-1 participates in the accumulation of leukocytes at the site of inflammation. A new SSAO inhibitor, SzV-1287 was demonstrated to inhibit both acute and chronic inflammation in rats more effectively than the known enzyme inhibitor, LJP-1207. Surprisingly, the SSAO activity was not increased, but decreased both in acute and chronic inflammation.(More)
A silver staining technique was applied to 51 thyroid smears. The numbers of silver-stained nucleolar organizer regions (AgNORs) were counted, and the mean AgNOR and nuclear area per cell were determined with an image analyzer. The mean AgNOR count per cell was significantly higher in malignant than in benign lesions, but there was a considerable overlap.(More)
Incidence of subsequent malignant tumor development in 740 patients with primary cutaneous melanoma verified between 2006 and 2010 at the Semmelweis University was studied retrospectively and was compared to data of sex and age matched Hungarian population. The follow-up period was 1499 person-years for the whole group from the diagnosis of index melanoma(More)
INTRODUCTION Survival of patients with malignant melanoma primarily depends on tumor stage. Hungarian National Cancer Registry does not specify tumors according to TNM stages. AIM The authors aimed to survey the stage distribution of melanomas at the Department of Dermatology, Dermatooncology and Venerology, Semmelweis University. METHOD 1160 patients(More)
Nowadays it is difficult to recognise and separate the various syndromes. The geneticists and the morphologists often change the classification of syndromes. The problem may be caused by a new case of a known syndrome, when new symptoms are described among the known ones. Then it is not sure, if a new syndrome discovered or it is a more complicated(More)
