A Gram-negative, rod shaped, motile, aerobic bacterium, designated as strain AK49T was isolated from a water sample from a mangrove forest in Coringa village, Andhra Pradesh, India and described here as a novel species belonging to the genus Aliiglaciecola.

A new antimicrobial peptide from a marine bacterium identified as Virgibacillus species was isolated and characterized, which selectively inhibited the growth of Gram-positive bacteria and biofilm formation by Enterococcus faecalis and was named as virgicin.
