The first study describing the chemical oxidation of hexachlorocyclohexanes (HCHs) in contaminated soil under water saturated and unsaturated flow through conditions and its findings will have promising implications in developing remediation techniques under dynamic conditions closer to field applications.

Results indicated that bimetallic nanoparticles Fe/Ni showed the highest efficiency in reduction of PCB28 and PCB118 in spiked sand, whereas magnetite (Fe3O4) exhibited a high catalytic stability during the combined reduction/oxidation approach.
