A new alkylated coumarin derivative, hexapetarin along with three other xanthones, trapezifolixanthone (2), cudraxanthone G (3) and 1,3,7-trihydroxy-2,4-di (3-methyl-2-butenyl)xanth one (4) were isolated from the stem bark of Mesua Hexapetala (Clusiaceae).

Mangaphenone (5) showed non-cytotoxicity against normal Vero cells, revealing its potential as lead compound for anti-breast cancer drug and structure–activity relationship postulated that the prenyl and hydroxyl groups present in xanthones are important in promoting anti-proliferative effects.

Phytochemical studies on the stem bark of Garcinia nervosa have resulted in the discovery of one new pyranoxanthone derivative, 1,5-dihydroxyxanthone, and five other compounds, including 6-deoxyisojacareubin, 12b-hydroxy-des-D-garcigerrin A, stigmasterol, and β-sitosterol.

Isodispar B (1) showed a promising dose-dependent and a broad spectrum of cytotoxic effects on all the tested cancer cell lines and was later found to induce apoptotic cell death in nasopharyngeal cancer cells, as evidenced by ‘Cell Death Detection’ ELISAPLUS kit, and exhibited good cancer-specific cytotoxicity when tested with noncancerous NP460 cells.
