- Psychology, MedicineInternational Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and…
- 10 June 2017
It is hoped that the definitions resulting from this comprehensive, transparent, and broad-based participatory process will result in standardized terminology that is widely supported and adopted, thereby advancing future research, interventions, policies, and practices related to sedentary behaviors.

The Canadian 24-Hour Movement Guidelines for Children and Youth: An Integration of Physical Activity, Sedentary Behaviour, and Sleep provide evidence-informed recommendations for a healthy day (24 h), comprising a combination of sleep, sedentary behaviours, light-, moderate-, and vigorous-intensity physical activity.
Systematic review of the relationships between objectively measured physical activity and health indicators in school-aged children and youth.
- V. Poitras, C. Gray, M. Tremblay
- Psychology, MedicineApplied physiology, nutrition, and metabolism…
- 16 June 2016
The findings continue to support the importance of at least 60 min/day of MVPA for disease prevention and health promotion in children and youth, but also highlight the potential benefits of LPA and total PA.
Systematic review of sedentary behaviour and health indicators in school-aged children and youth: an update.
- V. Carson, S. Hunter, M. Tremblay
- Psychology, MedicineApplied physiology, nutrition, and metabolism…
- 16 June 2016
This systematic review is an update examining the relationships between objectively and subjectively measured sedentary behaviour and health indicators in children and youth aged 5-17 years and found higher durations/frequencies of screen time and television viewing were associated with unfavourable body composition.
Volume, patterns, and types of sedentary behavior and cardio-metabolic health in children and adolescents: a cross-sectional study
- V. Carson, I. Janssen
- Medicine, PsychologyBMC Public Health
- 4 May 2011
No association was observed between overall volume and patterns of sedentary behavior with cardio-metabolic risk factors in this large sample of children and adolescents and TV and MVPA appear to be two separate behaviors that need to be targeted with different interventions and policies.
Systematic review of physical activity and health in the early years (aged 0-4 years).

- 5 July 2012
This work aimed to present the best available evidence to determine the relationship between physical activity and measures of adiposity, bone and skeletal health, motor skill development, psychosocial health, cognitive development, and cardiometabolic health indicators in infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.

- M. Tremblay, J. Chaput, V. Carson
- Medicine, PsychologyBMC Public Health
- 20 November 2017
These guidelines represent a sensible evolution of public health guidelines whereby optimal health is framed within the balance of movement behaviours across the whole day, while respecting preferences of end-users.
Physical activity and sedentary behavior during the early years in Canada: a cross-sectional study
- R. Colley, Didier Garriguet, M. Tremblay
- MedicineInternational Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and…
- 4 May 2013
There remains significant room for improvement in these behaviors among young Canadian children and only 15% of 3–4 year olds and 5% of 5 year olds are meeting both the physical activity and sedentary behavior guidelines.
Systematic review of the relationships between sleep duration and health indicators in school-aged children and youth.
- J. Chaput, C. Gray, M. Tremblay
- Medicine, PsychologyApplied physiology, nutrition, and metabolism…
- 16 June 2016
Overall, longer sleep duration was associated with lower adiposity indicators, better emotional regulation, better academic achievement, and better quality of life/well-being and there is a need for sleep restriction/extension interventions that examine the changes in different outcome measures against various amounts of objectively measured sleep to have a better sense of dose-response relationships.

- 27 March 2012
For healthy growth and development, infants (aged <1 year) should be physically active several times daily - particularly through interactive floor-based play, and toddlers and preschoolers should accumulate at least 180 min of physical activity at any intensity spread throughout the day.
