Carboxylic acids derived from silybin (1) and 2,3-dehydrosilybin (2) with improved water solubility were prepared by selective oxidation of parent compounds and a new inexpensive method for preparation of 2,3-dehydrosilybin from silybin was developed and optimised. The antioxidative properties of the above-mentioned compounds and of side product 3a from… (More)
Rubropunctatin (1), monascorubrin (2), monascin (3) and ankaflavin (4) were purified from the mycelium of Monascus purpureus by flash chromatography on silica gel or reversed phase. Their embryotoxicity towards chicken embryos decreased in the order 2 > 1 > 3 > 4. The lower homologues 1 and 3 exhibited teratogenic effects on these organisms. Significant… (More)
Ergot alkaloids agroclavine and elymoclavine have been modified using plant cell cultures exhibiting high peroxidase activity. Setoclavine and isosetoclavine have been isolated from media after transformation of agroclavine on a semipreparative scale. 10-Hydroxyelymoclavine resulted from similar treatment of elymoclavine.
Nonactic acid, homononactic acid and their 2-diastereoisomers were isolated by thin-layer chromatography on silica gel and by high-performance liquid chromatography on a reversed phase from the fermentation broth ofStreptomyces griseus, and identified by1H and13C NMR spectroscopy.
Pyranose dehydrogenase purified to homogeneity from the mycelia of the basidiomycete fungus Agaricus bisporus catalyzed the oxidation of D-xylose at C-2 to D-threo-pentos-2-ulose (2-keto-D-xylose) and successively at C-3 to D-glycero-pentos-2,3-diulose (2,3-diketo-D-xylose) using 1,4-benzoquinone as an electron acceptor. The sites of oxidation were deduced… (More)
Two d-glucose-oxidizing enzymes, glucose 1-oxidase (G1O) and pyranose 2-oxidase (P2O, glucose 2-oxidase), have been proposed to play an important role in the ligninolytic system of the white rot fungus Phanerochaete chrysosporium by producing hydrogen peroxide. The possible simultaneous expression and metabolic cooperation of the two oxidases was studied in… (More)
Seven streptomycete strains were tested for biotransformation of salicylate. The products were identified by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and three types of conversion were found. Streptomyces cinnamonensis and Streptomyces spectabilis formed gentisate and salicylamide concurrently. Streptomyces rimosus transformed salicylate to salicylamide.… (More)
Both qualitative and quantitative representation of monosaccharides of autotrophically and heterotrophically cultivated algaChlorella kessleri was determined. Potysaccharides obtained after separation of lipids from the alga were subjected to amylolysis and hydrolysis. Individual monosaccharides were determined in the form of per-O-acetylalditols using the… (More)
Synthesis and antibacterial activity of a number of 7-O-epoxyalkyl derivatives of daunomycinone prepared from 7-O-alkenyl derivatives of daunomycinone are described along with their inhibitory effect on leukemia P 388 cells.
Virginiamycins S1 and M1, two major components of the antibacterial antibiotic complex produced byStreptomyces virginiae and used as an animal growth promoter in animal husbandry, exhibited a selective insecticidal activity againstLeptinotarsa decemlineata comparable with the effect of the organophosphorus pesticide Metathion. An acaricidal effect of the… (More)
