Investigation on flavonoid composition and anti free radical potential of Sida cordata
- N. Shah, Muhammad Rashid Khan, B. Ahmad, Farah Noureen, U. Rashid, R. Khan
- BiologyBMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine
- 22 October 2013
Although the extract and all its derived fractions exhibited good antioxidant activities however, the most distinguished scavenging potential was observed for SCEE, confirming the utility of S. cordata against liver diseases in folk medicine.
Amelioration of kidney function markers by Sonchus asper butanolic extract against KBrO3-induced toxicity in rat
- R. Khan, Muhammad Rashid Khan, Tayyaba Afsar
- Chemistry
- 23 February 2012
The protective effects of Sonchus asper butanol extract against KBrO3- induced oxidative damage in kidney of rat were determined in this study. 24 Sprague-Dawley male rats (180 to 200 g) were divided…
Hepatoprotection with a chloroform extract of Launaea procumbens against CCl4-induced injuries in rats
- R. Khan, Muhammad Rashid Khan, Shumaila Jan
- BiologyBMC Complementary and Alternative Medicine
- 3 August 2012
Results indicated that Launaea procumbens efficiently protected against the hepatotoxicity induced by CCl4 in rats, possibly through the antioxidant effects of flavonoids present in LPCE.
Assessment of phytochemicals, antimicrobial and cytotoxic activities of extract and fractions from Fagonia olivieri (Zygophyllaceae)

The results showed that Escherichia coli was the most sensitive bacterium while Bordetella bronchiseptica and Enterobacter aerogenes were less susceptible against various fractions and FOE and FOB were the best antibacterial fractions.
Prevention of KBrO 3 -induced cardiotoxicity by Sonchus asper in rat
- Muhammad Rashid Khan, J. Haroon, R. Khan, Jasia Bokhari, M. Shabbir, U. Rashid
- Biology
- 18 June 2011
The results revealed that KBrO3 induced oxidative stress as evidenced by the significant decrease in the activity levels of antioxidant enzymes and glutathione while increase in the levels of γ-GT, MDA and H2O2 in cardiac samples compared with the control group.
Protective effects of Launaea procumbens against KBrO 3 -induced hepatic serum marker enzymes
- R. Khan, Muhammad Rashid Khan, S. Jan
- Biology
- 22 December 2011
Protective effects of methanol extract were evaluated in male Sprague Dawley rats biweekly for 4 weeks against KBrO 3 and showed that the administration of LP significantly lowered the K BrO 3-induced serum level of hepatic marker enzymes, total cholesterol, triglycerides low density lipoprotein (LDL) and high density lipiprotein (HDL).
Protective effects of Digera muricata (L.) Mart. against carbon tetrachloride induced oxidative stress in thyroid of rat
Results suggest that the ameliorative effects of DME could be attributed to radical scavenging or antioxidant properties, and Histopathological injuries induced with CCl 4 were remarkably reduced with co-treatment of D ME in a dose dependent fashion.
