The comparative oxidation of trans-hex-2-enol to leaf aldehyde has been effected with the aid of manganese dioxide, chromium oxide, and sodium dichromate in DMSO. In a study of the components of theMatricaria discoidea DC. growing in Estonia, three individual compounds have been isolated from the essential oil. On the basis of spectral characteristics, their structures have been shown as geranyl isovalerate, trans-β-farnesene, and herniarin.
