We investigated the involvement of substance P (SP) and the neurokinin-1 receptor (NK(1)R) in the development of radiation-induced hair loss in mice. A dose of 40 Gy of gamma irradiation induced hair loss from the 10th to at least the 60th day after irradiation. A specific NK(1)R antagonist, CP-99,994, significantly delayed radiation-induced hair loss and(More)
Activities of 3-mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase (EC in guinea pig tissues were determined and compared with those in the corresponding rat tissues. The activities in guinea pig tissues were found to be very low. The activity in the liver was 145.9 mumol pyruvate formed per g of fresh tissue per 15 min. This was 1/50 of the activity in the rat(More)
A simple and rapid method for sialic acid determination in sialoglycoproteins by acidic ninhydrin reaction is described. The method is based on the reaction of sialic acids with an acidic ninhydrin reagent (K. Yao and T. Ubuka (1987) Acta Med. Okayama 41, 237-241). By heating a sample solution containing sialoglycoprotein with the reagent at 100 degrees C(More)
A possible involvement of histamine in acute radiation dermatitis in mice was investigated. The dose of 40 Gy of gamma irradiation induced erythema and edema in C57BL/6 mice treated with vehicle. However, in C57BL/6 mice treated with chlorpheniramine and WBB6F1-W/Wv mice, erythema and edema were not observed. In all of these mice, epilation and dry(More)
Liquid scintillator (LS)-encapsulated silica was prepared by the sol-gel method and then was added dropwise onto a wipe paper to form a paper scintillator. First, the efficiencies of wipe were determined for both the paper scintillator and the wipe paper using a liquid scintillation counter (LSC). The efficiencies of wipe using the paper scintillator and(More)

The biological dosemeter that measures biological responses to ionising radiation is useful for radiation protection. This paper presents the development and characterisation of a gamma ray irradiation dosimetry system based on real-time PCR (polymerase chain reaction) methodology. Real-time PCR is used to amplify and simultaneously quantify a targeted DNA(More)
To identify individual cells exposed to a X-ray microbeam in a cell population, we developed a biocompatible microchamber-array chip using UV lithography of photopolymer SU-8. The center-to-center distance between microchambers is 50 mum including a wall of 15 mum height. Using the microchamber-array chip, we performed tracking of individual exposed cells.(More)
The isoelectric point (pI) value of 3-mercaptopyruvate sulfurtransferase (MST) from human erythrocytes was determined to be 6.3 at 10 degrees C by isoelectric focusing in horizontal slab polyacrylamide gel containing 2% carrier ampholyte (pH 3-10). The value was determined by comparison with the electrofocused bands of bovine pancreatic ribonuclease(More)
