A novel inflammation‐related mouse colon carcinogenesis model induced by azoxymethane and dextran sodium sulfate
TLDR
Results indicate that 1‐week administration of 2% DSS after initiation with a low dose of AOM exerts a powerful tumor‐promoting activity in Colon carcinogenesis in male ICR mice, and may provide a novel mouse model for investigating colitis‐related colon carcinogenesis and for identifying xenobiotics with modifying effects.
Mouse models for the study of colon carcinogenesis.
TLDR
This review discusses the general mechanisms of tumor initiation elicited by commonly used chemical carcinogens and how genetic background influences the extent of disease and the general features of lesions formed in response to carcinogen treatment, including the underlying molecular aberrations.
Colorectal carcinogenesis: Review of human and experimental animal studies
This review gives a comprehensive overview of cancer development and links it to the current understanding of tumorigenesis and malignant progression in colorectal cancer. The focus is on human and
Pomegranate seed oil rich in conjugated linolenic acid suppresses chemically induced colon carcinogenesis in rats
TLDR
It is suggested that PGO rich in c9,t11,c13‐CLN can suppress AOM‐induced colon carcinogenesis, and the inhibition is associated in part with the increased content of CLA in the colon and liver and/or increased expression of PPARγ protein in the Colon mucosa.
Cancer Chemoprevention by Carotenoids
Carotenoids are natural fat-soluble pigments that provide bright coloration to plants and animals. Dietary intake of carotenoids is inversely associated with the risk of a variety of cancers in
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 in stem cells and cancer
TLDR
The functions and mechanisms of ALDH1A1, the key ALDH isozyme linked to SC populations and an important contributor to CSC function in cancers, are reviewed, and its potential in future anticancer strategies is outlined.
Fucoxanthin induces apoptosis and enhances the antiproliferative effect of the PPARgamma ligand, troglitazone, on colon cancer cells.
TLDR
Findings indicate that fucoxanthin may act as a chemopreventive and/or chemotherapeutic carotenoid in colon cancer cells by modulating cell viability in combination with troglitazone.
Enhancement of development of azoxymethane-induced colonic premalignant lesions in C57BL/KsJ-db/db mice.
TLDR
The data indicate that development of AOM-induced premalignant lesions is enhanced in db/db mice with hyperleptinemia and hyperinsulinemia, which has important implications for further exploration of the possible underlying events that affect the positive association between colon cancer and chronic diseases (obesity and diabetes).
Dextran sodium sulfate strongly promotes colorectal carcinogenesis in ApcMin/+ mice: Inflammatory stimuli by dextran sodium sulfate results in development of multiple colonic neoplasms
TLDR
The results suggest a strong promotion effect of DSS in the intestinal carcinogenesis of ApcMin/+ mice and suggest that strong oxidative/nitrosative stress caused by DSS‐induced inflammation may contribute to the colonic neoplasms development.
