PURPOSE To prospectively use long-scan-time computed tomography (CT) to visualize the trajectory of tumor movements or the internal target volume. MATERIALS AND METHODS The study was approved by the institutional review board. Written informed consent was obtained from participants after the study and the role of procedures were explained fully. During… (More)
The iron-oxidizing bacterium, Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans, was cultivated on a medium without ferrous iron. Molecular hydrogen and air were supplied to the medium. It was found that A. ferrooxidans could grow with hydrogen in the pH range between 2.0 and 3.5. A trickle-bed contactor was used to increase the dissolution rate of hydrogen. The doubling time… (More)
Thiobacillus ferrooxidans, isolated from mine water, utilized not only ferrous iron but also glucose to grow. By using ferrous-iron medium containing glucose, a 7-fold population increase was obtained after 96 h of incubation. The ability to oxidize ferrous iron was maintained during cultivation on the iron-glucose medium.
The Ni2+ resistance of Thiobacillus ferrooxidans was enhanced by repeated culturing in medium containing Ni2+ and gradually increasing the Ni2+ concentration. The extraction of nickel sulfide was enhanced by the adapted strain following the direct leaching mechanism of the microorganism.
