The chemical and radiochemical purities of the labelled leupeptin were found to be over 99% by high performance liquid chromatography using radioisotope and ultraviolet detectors.

Thirty analogues of leupeptin were synthesized and examined for their inhibitory activities against trypsin, papain, plasmin, kallikrein, thrombin and urokinase in vitro and only L-pyroglutamyl-L-leucyl- L-argininal exhibited a potent inhibitory activity.
