Although adaptation decelerated sharply, genomic evolution was nearly constant for 20,000 generations, which is usually viewed as the signature of neutral evolution, but several lines of evidence indicate that almost all of these mutations were beneficial.

The data presented here demonstrate the utility of BAC16 for the generation and characterization of KSHV knockout and mutant recombinants and further emphasize the importance of functional analysis of viral genes in the context of the KSHv genome besides the study of individual gene expression.

Biochemical properties and substrate specificities of alkaline and histidine acid phytases
This review describes recent findings that present novel viewpoints concerning the molecular basis of phytase classification and exhibits strict substrate specificity for the calcium–phytate complex and produces myo-inositol trisphosphate as the final product.

A genome database search based on the conserved motif, putative AhlD-like lactonase genes were found in several other bacteria, and AHL-degrading activities were observed in Klebsiella pneumoniae and Bacillus stearothermophilus, suggesting the possibility that Ahl D-like AHLases could exist in many other micro-organisms.
Crystal structures of a novel, thermostable phytase in partially and fully calcium-loaded states
A new folding architecture of a six-bladed propeller for phosphatase activity revealed by the 2.1 Å crystal structures of a novel, thermostable phytase determined in both the partially and fully Ca2+-loaded states is reported.

Gene cloning and characterization of thermostable lipase from Bacillus stearothermophilus L1.
The gene coding for an extracellular lipase of Bacillus stearothermophilus L1 was cloned in Escherichia coli and showed highest activity toward p-nitrophenyl caprylate among the synthetic substrates and tripropionin among the triglycerides.
Isolation and Characterization of a Novel Lipase from a Metagenomic Library of Tidal Flat Sediments: Evidence for a New Family of Bacterial Lipases

LipG was related to six putative lipases previously identified only in bacterial genome sequences, which comprise a new family and is partially characterized, providing the first experimental data for a member of this family.
