Circulating Tumor Cell as a Diagnostic Marker in Primary Lung Cancer
- F. Tanaka, K. Yoneda, S. Hasegawa
- MedicineClinical Cancer Research
- 3 November 2009
Among lung cancer patients, CTC count significantly increased along with tumor progression, especially with development of distant metastasis, but a receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis showed an insufficient capability of the CTC test in discrimination between lung cancer and nonmalignant diseases.

There was significant variation regarding surgical nomenclature for procedures for MPM, and most surgeons believed that extrapleural pneumonectomy or “radical P/D” could provide adequate cytoreduction, whereas only 23% thought that P/ D could.
Frequent inactivation of the BAP1 gene in epithelioid‐type malignant mesothelioma
- Yoshie Yoshikawa, A. Sato, T. Hashimoto‐Tamaoki
- Biology, MedicineCancer Science
- 1 May 2012
The results suggest that the lack of the tumor suppressor BAP1 may be more specifically involved in the pathogenesis of epithelioid MM rather than non‐epithelioids MM, and would be useful for diagnosis of epit helioid‐type MM.

Interleukin 6 and its relationship to clinical parameters in patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma.
- T. Nakano, A. Chahinian, K. Higashino
- Medicine, BiologyBritish Journal of Cancer
- 1 March 1998
Results indicate that large amounts of IL-6 from the pleural fluid of patients with mesothelioma leak into the systemic circulation and induce clinical inflammatory reactions, and argues against a diagnosis of adenocarcinoma.
Serum HMGB1 as a prognostic marker for malignant pleural mesothelioma
- C. Tabata, Eisuke Shibata, T. Nakano
- Medicine, BiologyBMC Cancer
- 24 April 2013
Serum levels of high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) in patients with MPM had significantly higher serum levels than the population who had been exposed to asbestos but had not developed MPM, suggesting that HMGB1 concentration is a useful prognostic factor for MPM.

High-density array-CGH with targeted NGS unmask multiple noncontiguous minute deletions on chromosome 3p21 in mesothelioma
- Yoshie Yoshikawa, M. Emi, M. Carbone
- BiologyProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences
- 9 November 2016
It is found that gene mutations/deletions are frequent in mesothelioma and occur through a variety of DNA alterations, and high-density aCGH combined with tNGS provides a more precise estimate of the frequency and types of genes inactivated in human cancer than approaches based exclusively on NGS strategy.
Significant increase in circulating tumour cells in pulmonary venous blood during surgical manipulation in patients with primary lung cancer.
- M. Hashimoto, F. Tanaka, S. Hasegawa
- MedicineInteractive Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgery
- 1 October 2013
A significant increase in CTC count in drainage PV blood after surgical manipulation, especially in tumours with lymphatic invasion is documented, particularly in patients with resectable primary lung cancer.
