Discovery of the Japanese strains of C. reinhardtii supports the cosmopolitan distribution of this species and corrects the morphological, genealogical, phylogenetical, and mating studies including the new Japanese strains.
New “missing link” genus of the colonial volvocine green algae gives insights into the evolution of oogamy
- H. Nozaki, T. Yamada, F. Takahashi, Ryo Matsuzaki, T. Nakada
- BiologyBMC Evolutionary Biology
- 3 March 2014
A novel colonial volvocine genus is identified, Colemanosphaera, which produces bundles of spindle-shaped male gametes through successive divisions of colonial cells and exhibits a missing link between Platydorina and the typical spheroidal colonial vol vocine members such as Pandorina or Yamagishiella.
TAXONOMIC STUDY OF TWO NEW GENERA OF FUSIFORM GREEN FLAGELLATES, TABRIS GEN. NOV. AND HAMAKKO GEN. NOV. (VOLVOCALES, CHLOROPHYCEAE) 1
On the basis of LM, we isolated strains of two species of fusiform green flagellates that could be assigned to former Chlorogonium (Cg.) Ehrenb. One species, “Cg.”heimii Bourr., lacked a pyrenoid in…
MOLECULAR PHYLOGENY, ULTRASTRUCTURE, AND TAXONOMIC REVISION OF CHLOROGONIUM (CHLOROPHYTA): EMENDATION OF CHLOROGONIUM AND DESCRIPTION OF GUNGNIR GEN. NOV. AND RUSALKA GEN. NOV. 1

- BiologyJournal of Phycology
- 1 June 2008
The molecular phylogeny and ultrastructure of Chlorogonium and related species were examined to establish the natural taxonomy at the generic level and Gungnir Nakada gen. nov was described on the basis of unique ultrastructural characteristics.
Species Preferentiality of the Pollen Tube Attractant Derived from the Synergid Cell of Torenia fournieri1

- BiologyPlant Physiology
- 25 August 2006
In vivo crossing experiments showed that the attraction of the pollen tube to the embryos sac was impaired when pollen tubes of different species arrived around the embryo sac, suggesting that the species preferentiality of the attractant may serve as a reproductive barrier in the final step of directional control ofThe pollen tube.

Chemical Characterization of Fucoidan from Commercially Cultured Nemacystus decipiens (Itomozuku).
Fucoidan was isolated from Nemacystus decipiens KUCKUCK which is commercially cultured at the rate of about 2,000 t/year in fields of the Okinawa Islands, in Japan. The yield of fucoidan extracted by…
