The effect of fucoxanthin on melanogenesis is examined, which is a carotenoid derived from edible sea algae that is topically applied for sun‐protective and whitening purposes.
Myxoxanthophyll in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 is myxol 2'-dimethyl-fucoside, (3R,2'S)-myxol 2'-(2,4-di-O-methyl-alpha-L-fucoside), not rhamnoside.
The molecular structures of the carotenoids in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 were identified and the name of the myxoxanthophyll was myxol 2'-dimethyl-fucoside, (3R,2'S)-myxol2'-(2,4-di-O-methyl-alpha-L-fukoside).
