The complete genome sequence of the model Sorangium strain S. cellulosum So ce56 is reported, which produces several natural products and has morphological and physiological properties typical of the genus, and the circular genome is the largest bacterial genome sequenced to date.

Three new apotirucallane-type triterpenoids isolated from the stems of Brucea javanica, a traditional medicine used to treat malaria in the Bengkulu area, Sumatra, Indonesia, were shown to inhibit growth of the cultured malarial parasite Plasmodium falciparum K1 of a chloroquine-resistant strain.
