"Proximal-type" epithelioid sarcoma, a distinctive aggressive neoplasm showing rhabdoid features. Clinicopathologic, immunohistochemical, and ultrastructural study of a series.
TLDR
The proximal variant is characterized by a predominantly large-cell, epithelioid cytomorphology, marked cytologic atypia, frequent occurrence of rhabdoid features, and lack of a granuloma-like pattern in most cases, and appears to be somewhat more aggressive (or at least metastasizes earlier) than usual epitheliosarcoma.
Guidelines for Pathologic Diagnosis of Malignant Mesothelioma 2017 Update of the Consensus Statement From the International Mesothelioma Interest Group.
TLDR
These guidelines are meant to be a practical diagnostic reference for the pathologist, however, some new pathologic predictors of prognosis and response to therapy are also included.
Guidelines for pathologic diagnosis of malignant mesothelioma: 2012 update of the consensus statement from the International Mesothelioma Interest Group.
TLDR
These guidelines are meant to be a practical reference for the pathologist and recommend that immunohistochemical markers have either sensitivity or specificity greater than 80% for the lesions in question.
BAP1 and cancer
TLDR
Findings indicate that germline BAP1 mutations cause a novel cancer syndrome that is characterized by the onset at an early age of benign melanocytic skin tumours with mutated B AP1, and later in life by a high incidence of mesothelioma, uveal melanoma, cutaneous melanoma and possibly additional cancers.
Guidelines for pathologic diagnosis of malignant mesothelioma: a consensus statement from the International Mesothelioma Interest Group.
TLDR
These guidelines are meant to be a practical reference for the pathologist and take into account the localization of the stain and the percentage of cells staining in the diagnosis of MM.
Levels of matrix metalloproteases in bladder cancer correlate with tumor grade and invasion.
TLDR
Using quantitative zymography to measure levels of the type IV collagenases matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-9 and MMP-2 in 42 biopsies of transitional cell carcinoma and in 7 biopsy of normal bladder, in situ hybridization studies showed that the mRNAs were located chiefly in the stroma rather than epithelial tumor cells and were concentrated at the interface between the two tissues.
Genetic requirements for Staphylococcus aureus abscess formation and persistence in host tissues
TLDR
Staphylococcus aureus infections are associated with abscess formation and bacterial persistence; however, the genes that enable this lifestyle are not known and insertional variants in genes for cell wall‐anchored surface proteins are tested to infer the stage at which these molecules function.
C-Reactive Protein and Complement Are Important Mediators of Tissue Damage in Acute Myocardial Infarction
TLDR
It is shown that injection of human CRP into rats after ligation of the coronary artery reproducibly enhanced infarct size by ∼40%.
Expression and mutational analysis of MET in human solid cancers
TLDR
Systematic analysis of the expression of the MET receptor and its ligand HGF in tumor tissue microarrays from human solid cancers found a number of novel mutations of MET, particularly in the extracellular semaphorin domain and the juxtamembrane domain.
