The known anti-diabetic and eye function properties of anthocyanins are summarised to help in the understanding of their functional mechanism. Expand
Antioxidant small phenolic ingredients in Inonotus obliquus (persoon) Pilat (Chaga).
The antioxidant activity of hot water extract of Chaga was precisely compared with those of other medicinal fungi showing Chaga had the strongest antioxidant activity among fungi examined in terms of both superoxide and hydroxyl radicals scavenging activities. Expand
Bioavailability and tissue distribution of anthocyanins in bilberry (Vaccinium myrtillus L.) extract in rats.
Plasma clearance of anthocyanins after intravenous administration clearly showed that arabinoside disappeared more rapidly than glucoside and galactoside, and anthokyanins carrying the same sugar moiety showed a higher bioavailability than glucOSide for petunidin and malvidin. Expand
Antioxidant Activity of Anthocyanin Extract from Purple Black Rice.
Results indicate that the anthocyanin Cy 3-Glc contributes to the antioxidant activity of PBR through its strong superoxide radical but not hydroxyl radical scavenging activity. Expand
The lactate-dependent enhancement of hydroxyl radical generation by the Fenton reaction
The data obtained in the present experiments suggested that the Fe3+-lactate (1:2) complex formed in the Fenton reaction system reacts directly with H2O2 to produce additional ·OH in theFenton reaction by other mechanisms than lactate or lactate/Fe3+ mediated promotion of Fe3/Fe2+ redox cycling. Nasunin from eggplant consists of cis-trans isomers of delphinidin 3-[4-(p-coumaroyl)-L-rhamnosyl (1-->6)glucopyranoside]-5-glucopyranoside.
The results indicated that nasunin comprised cis and trans isomers of the p-coumaric acid moiety in its structure, similar to other anthocyanins isolated from the acidified methanolic extract of eggplant. Expand
Ingested delphinidin-3-rutinoside is primarily excreted to urine as the intact form and to bile as the methylated form in rats.
The results indicate that delphinidin-3-rutinoside might be metabolized differently from cyanidin (aglycone)3-glucoside and pelargonidin -3- GLUCoside, and this effect appears to stem immobilization stress by reducing gastrointestinal motility. Expand
Prevention of scopolamine-induced memory deficits by schisandrin B, an antioxidant lignan from Schisandra chinensis in mice
It is suggested that Sch B have protective function against cerebral functional defects such as dementia not only by antioxidant prevention but also exerting its potent cognitive-enhancing activity through modulation of acetylcholine level. Expand
Amyloid-beta-induced cytotoxicity of PC-12 cell was attenuated by Shengmai-san through redox regulation and outgrowth induction.
Dual roles of SMS in PC-12 cells demonstrated, suggesting benefits of SMS for the treating of neurodegenerative diseases and preventing the apoptosis through the enhancement of anti-oxidant enzymes and inhibition of the JNK signaling pathway with the promotion of nerve cell maturation. Expand
Specific Inhibition of the Halobacterial Na+/H+ Antiporter by Halocin H6 (*)
Halocin H6 inhibited light-induced Na+ out-flow in membrane vesicles of Halobacterium halobium and is the first specific physiological inhibitor of the halobacterial Na+/H+ antiporter to be described. Expand
