Evidence that anaerobic oxidation of toluene in the denitrifying bacterium Thauera aromatica is initiated by formation of benzylsuccinate from toluene and fumarate.
- T. Biegert, G. Fuchs, J. Heider
- Chemistry, BiologyEuropean Journal of Biochemistry
- 1 June 1996
A hypothetical degradation pathway for the anaerobic oxidation of toLUene to benzoyl-CoA via an initial addition of fumarate to the methyl group of toluene and following beta-oxidation of the benzylsuccinate formed is suggested.
Anaerobic oxidation of toluene (analogues) to benzoate (analogues) by whole cells and by cell extracts of a denitrifying Thauera sp.
- T. Biegert, G. Fuchs
- Chemistry, BiologyArchives of Microbiology
- 1 June 1995
This is the first in vitro study of anaerobic oxidation of an aromatic hydrocarbon and of the whole-cell regulation of the toluene-oxidizing enzyme.
On the outside looking in? Transitions out of non-employment in the United Kingdom and Germany
- T. Biegert
- Economics
- 1 February 2014
This article investigates differences in the likelihood of becoming an insider in Germany and the United Kingdom. Consistent with recent literature on dualization it contends that insider protection…
Enzymes of anaerobic metabolism of phenolic compounds. 4-Hydroxybenzoate-CoA ligase from a denitrifying Pseudomonas species.
- T. Biegert, U. Altenschmidt, C. Eckerskorn, G. Fuchs
- BiologyEuropean Journal of Biochemistry
- 1 April 1993
Polyclonal antibodies were raised and used in immunoblot assays to study the regulation of the expression of 4-hydroxybenzoate-CoA ligase, and other analogues of benzoate are inactive, and 2,4-dihydroxy Benzoate and 2-hydroxyphenylacetate act as competitive inhibitors.
Welfare Benefits and Unemployment in Affluent Democracies: The Moderating Role of the Institutional Insider/Outsider Divide
- T. Biegert
- Economics
- 29 August 2017
The effect of generous welfare benefits on unemployment is highly contested. The dominant perspective contends that benefits provide disincentive to work, whereas others portray benefits as…
The Rise of Precarious Employment in Germany
- David J. Brady, T. Biegert
- Economics

Long considered the classic coordinated market economy featuring employment security and relatively little employment precarity, the German labor market has undergone profound changes in recent…
Labor market institutions, the insider/outsider divide and social inequalities in employment in affluent countries
- T. Biegert
- Economics

This article investigates the role of labor market institutions for social inequalities in employment. To distinguish institutional impacts for men and women, age groups and educational levels the…
Purification and properties of benzyl alcohol dehydrogenase from a denitrifying Thauera sp.
- T. Biegert, U. Altenschmidt, C. Eckerskorn, G. Fuchs
- Biology, ChemistryArchives of Microbiology
- 1 June 1995
The N-terminal amino acid sequence indicates that the enzyme belongs to the class of long-chain Zn2+-dependent alcohol dehydrogenases, although it appears not to contain a metal ion that can be removed by complexing agents.
Observing many researchers using the same data and hypothesis reveals a hidden universe of uncertainty
- Nate Breznau, E. M. Rinke, Hung Hoang Viet Nguyen
- EconomicsProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences…
- 28 October 2022
Each model deployed to test the hypothesis was unique, which highlights a vast universe of research design variability that is normally hidden from view and suggests humility when presenting and interpreting scientific findings.
Taking lemons for a trial run: does type of job exit affect the risk of entering fixed-term employment in Germany?
- T. Biegert, M. Kühhirt
- Economics, Business
- 1 April 2018
A central argument for the deregulation of employment contracts is that fixed-term contracts boost employment of jobseekers with uncertain productivity by giving employers a tool to screen such…
