Orthoptera, a new order of pollinator.
- C. Micheneau, J. Fournel, M. Chase
- Environmental ScienceAnnals of Botany
- 1 March 2010
Although orthopterans are well known for herbivory, this represents the first clearly supported case of orthopteran-mediated pollination in flowering plants.
Worldwide Spread of the Ant Cricket Myrmecophilus americanus, a Symbiont of the Longhorn Crazy Ant, Paratrechina longicornis
- J. K. Wetterer, Sylvain Hugel
- Biology
- 2008
The number of dorsal spurs on the hind basitarsus varied among and within adult M. americanus specimens, calling into question the use of this character in distinguishing different species, and it would expect future studies to find additional species-specific adaptations that may be unique to the M. longicornis association.
Laying the foundations of evolutionary and systematic studies in crickets (Insecta, Orthoptera): a multilocus phylogenetic analysis
- Ioana C Chintauan-Marquier, F. Legendre, L. Desutter‐Grandcolas
- BiologyCladistics
- 1 February 2016
The first phylogenetic hypothesis for the evolution of crickets sensu lato is proposed, based on analysis of 205 species, representing 88% of the subfamilies and 71% tribes currently listed in the database Orthoptera Species File (OSF).
Edible Crickets (Orthoptera) Around the World: Distribution, Nutritional Value, and Other Benefits—A Review
- H. J. Magara, S. Niassy, S. Ekesi
- MedicineFrontiers in Nutrition
- 12 January 2021
Overall, the cricket species examined in this review are safe to be consumed, and they display high proximate content that can replace plant and livestock products.
Diversity and Use of Edible Grasshoppers, Locusts, Crickets, and Katydids (Orthoptera) in Madagascar
- J. Van Itterbeeck, Irina N Rakotomalala Andrianavalona, B. Fisher
- BiologyFoods
- 1 December 2019
Edible Orthoptera are primarily collected casually and marketing is rare, with the notable exceptions of the large cricket Brachytrupes membranaceus colosseus and during locust outbreaks (e.g., Locusta migratoria).
True Katydids (Pseudophyllinae) from Guadeloupe: Acoustic Signals and Functional Considerations of Song Production
- A. Stumpner, Angela Dann, Matthias Schink, Silvia Gubert, Sylvain Hugel
- BiologyJournal of Insect Science
- 24 December 2013
It is the first record of simultaneous calling song and tremulation in Orthoptera, and the basic aspects of sound production and acousto-vibratory behavior of these species were examined.
First North American Records of the Old World Ant Cricket Myrmecophilus americanus (Orthoptera, Myrmecophilidae)
- J. K. Wetterer, Sylvain Hugel
- Biology, Environmental Science
- 18 August 2014
The first North American records of M. americanus are reported, all from peninsular Florida and the Florida Keys, and it is likely that the higher latitude records reported as M.Americanus from subtropical semi-arid Mediterranean sites are actually misidentifications of one or more distinct species.
Performance of Newly Described Native Edible Cricket Scapsipedus icipe (Orthoptera: Gryllidae) on Various Diets of Relevance for Farming.
- H. J. Magara, C. Tanga, S. Ekesi
- Medicine, BiologyJournal of Economic Entomology
- 18 January 2019
The findings reveal that the impact of diet quality on the biological fitness parameters of S. icipe is significantly influenced by the different diets tested, and the implication of the results are discussed in light of effective mass rearing of this species.
Trigonidiinae crickets from Rodrigues island: from widespread pantropical species to critically endangered endemic species
- Sylvain Hugel
- Biology
- 13 February 2012
Elements of the ecology of endemic Trigonidiinae of Rodrigues are given, and their conservation status is assessed.
New and little known predatory katydids from Mascarene islands (Ensifera: Meconematinae and Hexacentrinae).
- Sylvain Hugel
- Biology
- 21 July 2010
The predatory katydids of Mauritius, Rodrigues, and Reunion islands are examined. One new Hexacentrinae genus and species, and three new Phisidini species (Meconematinae) are described from…
