An L-asparaginase producing mesophilic fungus Cylindrocarpon obtusisporum MB-10 was isolated from soil. The constitutive intracellular L-asparaginase from the organism was purified. The enzyme after 65-fold purification with an overall yield of 11% and specific activity of 100 unit.mg-1 seemed to be homogeneous in native, SDS-PAGE and thin layer isoelectric… (More)
An l-asparaginase produced by Pseudomonas stutzeri MB-405 was isolated and characterized. After initial ammonium sulfate fractionation, the enzyme was purified by consecutive column chromatography on Sephadex G-100, Ca-hydroxylapatite, and DEAE-Sephadex A-50. The 665.5-fold purified enzyme thus obtained has the specific activity of 732.3 units mg protein-1… (More)
The alpha-amylase enzyme synthesis was higher when M. thermophila D-14 (ATCC 48104) was grown in culture medium incorporated with starch or other carbohydrates containing maltose units. Maximum enzyme production was attained with 1% starch followed by a gradual decrease with increasing concentration. Marked decrease in alpha-amylase synthesis occurred with… (More)
Modulation of events characteristic of carcinogenesis or of cancer cells is being emphasized as a rational strategy to control cancer. Green tea polyphenol epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) has been shown to be highly active as a cancer chemopreventive agent. Certain cellular and molecular events relevant to carcinogenesis are also modified by EGCG. The… (More)
An extracellular endoglucanase (1,4-beta-glucanohydrolase, EC 22.214.171.124) produced by Myceliophthora thermophila D-14 (ATCC 48104) has been purified to homogeneity by ammonium sulphate precipitation and two consecutive ion-exchange chromatographic steps on DEAE-Sephadex A-50 columns. The enzyme was purified 13.8-fold and was homogeneous by analytical PAGE and… (More)
Adsorption of water soluble lead on polymetallic sea nodule has been studied in detail. Complete decontamination of lead is possible by appropriate sea nodule dosing. Adsorption is also dependent on pH and best adsorption is achieved at pH 6. Beyond pH 6, the desorption of lead from sea nodule surface is practically zero. Residual metal concentrations in… (More)
Lactobacillus cellobiosus, isolated from city wastes, produced an extracellular alpha-amylase and produced lactic acid by direct fermentation of waste potato mash. Using a 5% (w/v) potato mash with 3% (w/v) CaCO to neutralise the lactic acid produced, 50% conversion of starch to lactic acid occurred in 48 h without any other media supplement.
Soluble starch was hydrolysed to maltose byAspergillus wentii Wehmer (IMI 17295). Studies on nutritional requirements ofAspergillus wentii for production of amylase revealed that the optimum conditions were achieved in fermentation culture medium containing 1% starch, and incubated at 20 °C for 3 days at pH 6.0. Tryptophan was the best nitrogen source. The… (More)
Drinking water is often the main source of fluoride intake by humans, especially in areas where their concentrations in groundwater and/or surface water is high. Endemic fluorosis is present in at least 20 states of India, affecting more than 65 million people including 6 million children. Fluoride ion (F) concentrations in India’s groundwater vary widely,… (More)
Mutational experiments were performed to produce morphological mutants fromAspergillus wentii Wehmer (IMI 17295) by UV and X-ray irradiation. Among the morphological mutants, five representative types were recognized. Marked variation existed in amylase activity between the morphological mutants and the wild type.
